I wasn't sure where to put this but here is an article by Alex Massie and Sian Bradley about the first week of the Scottish hate crime law. I'm online for the first time since last Sunday, I need to catch up with what happened.

How Scotland made a mess of its hate crime law — in a week of chaos

After a four-year battle to pass the SNP’s bill, more than 6,000 complaints have already been reported. What are Scots to think?

I'd change how Scotland made a mess..to how SNP made a mess
Everything they touch turns to shit
One ill conceived idea after another.

Oh dear. As the furore around Scotland’s Hate Crime Act extends into its sixth day, there are now fears about police spending as the force looks set to struggle with the sheer volume of complaints. It is understood that, since the Act was implemented on Monday, 40 officers a day have been required to work overtime to help tackle reports. With officers being paid time and a third for working extra hours, there are concerns about overstretching the Police Scotland budget.

Scotland’s police at ‘breaking point’ over new hate law

I know @Northernsouloldies I live in Scotland, but every party in the Scottish parliament except the Conservatives voted for this bill and it seems Sarwar said he isn't going to repeal it if Labour wins the next Scottish election.

Ive highlighted before that certain crimes weren't going to be investigated as trialled in Aberdeen.. police Scotland it was a success like they were going to say otherwise. Now resources that Scotland can't afford are being wasted on this...you really couldn't make it up.

I know it's not the point but how can non-investigation of crimes ever be touted as a 'success'? Obviously for the criminals it is, but what measure could possibly be used to be able to state that?

It beggars belief.

It really does beggar belief! A brand new law that even before we get out of the starting blocks we are being told that some of it won't be enforced?!? Why the hell was it drafted and passed then? We are living in strange times.

'We are where we are, to a large degree, because the Scottish Government failed women – for entirely cynical reasons relating to Nicola Sturgeon’s desire to maintain her support base – in 2021 by excluding them from protection under the new Hate Crime Act.'

Good to put that in context. Sturgeon excluded women to try and appease trans activists. In a direct conflict of rights, she chose a tiny group of activists over Scottish women.

It's what we all knew but to see it laid bare like this is quite something. How easy it was to get so many members to vote for it. How so many were more than happy to disregard women so openly. How it was so blatantly obvious it was done to appease TRAs but included religion, race, etc when we already have laws protecting these groups.

I assume it's based on clearup rate. From the article below, "It is expected to remove 10,500 “minor crimes” from being allocated to frontline officers nationally per year – such as missing garden ornaments or a damaged car bumper – if there are no lines of inquiry and no concern about “threat, harm, vulnerability or risk” to the caller.

So if they don't investigate crimes with "no lines of inquiry" then they can't fail to solve them and their success rate goes up.

Police Scotland will not investigate every crime

The force has defended plans to move to a model of 'proportionate investigation' for non-emergency 101 calls.
