Should he be legally allowed to force everyone to 'believe' he is? (Obtaining a certificate asserting that as fact, would entitle him to benefit from the revenue stream from playing the music of Elvis, so it would be worth his efforts)

There's an entertainment industry, and a private amusement, in dressing up.

Some impersonate Elvis. Others impersonate Women. Nobody can actually "transition" to become Elvis. Nor can anyone with a Y chromosome "transition" to become female. Giving any of them an " Elvis recognition certificate", or a "sex change certificate" or a falsified birth certificate, won't make an untruth true.

Women and children are at serious risk from fake 'women'. The Presley estate would not allow any risk from fantasists, fetishists or fraudsters who take their private hobbies or their stage impersonation acts to the point of actually attempting to deceive.

Could I suggest we disallow and discontinue colluding with the language of the female impersonation industry, which has now become a dangerous cult? There Is No Such Thing As Transitioning.

There's No Such Thing As Changing Sex. There Is No Such Thing As Legally Definable 'Gender'. The word has no place in a Statute or a Policy or Practice.

I’ve switched to ‘Men who claim they are women’ and ‘Women who claim
they are men’ because it’s more inclusive of those who say they are trans but don’t want medical or surgical intervention.

Those who do choose cosmetic surgery I tend to call ‘cosmetically altered males’ and ‘cosmetically altered females’.

’Men who claim they are Elvis’ works similarly.

Still wondering where EllyVis (Elephant Man Elvis) fits in…

I think we need to challenge the presumption that gender identity is a serious concept, worthy of respect in a democratic society. It is not just "binary" woman/man. it includes all manner of silly Tumblr identity labels.

Just to note, I don't think any of them are inherently less convincing than any others. I don't believe in gender identity as distinct from sex as a real thing.

Thanks for the reminder about the inimitable Kirsty McColl's song lyrics.
Another relevant title here is 'Don't come the cowboy with me, Sonny Jim'Smile

Great song:

“Well he’s a liar
And I’m not sure about you”

I've always said this.
I now identify as Kate Moss. Now where's my modelling contract and fuck load of money?

I wonder what the late Kirsty MacColl would think of the context in which her song is being quoted.

Admittedly I hadn't thought. The reply from Serendipity Jane - "In these shoes" fits.

But suddenly I spotted there is a grim link to Kirsty's death: An arrogant man ignored the clear signposting telling him to keep out of an area set aside for swimming-only. He had a powerful boat and decided he would drive it into the reserved area, and plough through the helpless swimmers. Kirsty saw he was about to remove the head of her 15 year old son, whom she managed to push out of the way, but at the cost of her own life. The man was sentenced to prison, but nobody took him there. Kirsty's mother spent six years trying in vain to get the sentence enforced. Arrogant men get enabled by those in power, not punished.
