.... I don't even have words - I just feel ill.
I'm not familiar with the intricacies of HIV, can it be transmitted through whatever type of bodily fluid you'd call that or is it just semen/blood that it travels through?

NoelJo · 01/04/2024 15:39

Horrifying. Should be locked up.

SocksShmocks · 01/04/2024 15:40

This is disgusting. There’s no reason to breast feed in these circumstances. No reason to take even a 1% or less risk for the child. Formula is safe - use it.

SabreIsMyFave · 01/04/2024 15:40

Gawd. I was just sick in my mouth! 😖

AFAIK it can be transmitted via any bodily fluid. No reason to assume these vile secretions would be exempt.

"It’s important to emphasize that we do not recommend breast feeding for people with HIV as this is the only way to be certain that no HIV transmission will occur after a baby is born,” Dr. Klein said in her response. “However, guidelines have evolved over time with the recognition that the risk of transmission is very low when HIV infection is undetectable with effective therapy … If, after informed discussion, a person expresses a wish to breastfeed they may chose to do so provided they are willing to follow a close protocol of viral monitoring and have their baby followed closely with pediatric specialists who would generally recommend that they receive preventive medication.”

Bloody hell! The baby can't consent to that! Giving a baby antivirals so the HIV positive parent can choose to bf them.. why isn't that child abuse?

Of course, us non HIV mothers are censured for a tiny glass of wine/ paracetamol/ etc 🙄

Dippydinosaurus · 01/04/2024 16:11

I have five physicians in three clinics and two world class hospitals helping me

I needed help with actual breastfeeding and also had mastitis and got barely any support. Yet a man with no breasts gets all this support wtaf

Forwarder · 01/04/2024 16:24

How did this man get his hands on a baby in the first place?

Maybe he bought it? He’s Canadian.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 01/04/2024 17:11

oy vay. Say anything negatives and Hatey McHateCrime will call the rozzers on ya.

Katkins17 · 01/04/2024 17:12

So these so called 'clinicians' are supporting abuse in plain sight.

Why is this supported and championed by these sick people....I can't see in any possible scenario where this can possibly be accepted as anything than it is...
Child abuse.

BackCats · 01/04/2024 17:18

Perhaps it’s a bedside manner thing? Medical staff must be so well used to suppressing feelings and thoughts like discomfort, judgement, horror and revulsion in their day to day jobs dealing with sick and injured people- how else would they be able to avoid flinching, gasping, trembling, etc, in a way that would make patients uncomfortable?

They are probably on autopilot. They know this stuff is lawful in Canada and so they crack on.

marlfield · 01/04/2024 17:18

This makes me feel sick. The thought of a pure, innocent baby sucking instinctively at the revolting fluid secreted by a male nipple when that man has HIV and is pumped full of artificial hormones. This is absolute madness. Child abuse. He shouldn't be allowed anywhere near children.

Yes. It is horrifying. The fact that a man would fantasise about doing it is repellent enough, without considering the lengths he would go to in order to achieve it in reality, or thinking about the sick kind of society where he is enabled by professionals to do it. When the poor child is old enough to understand what was done to them and no one intervened- they will feel so violated, betrayed and conspired against. It is disturbing. Truly disturbing. It sickens me like I feel sickened when archaeologists dig up ritually sacrificed babies and children in Central America. You wonder how humanity can form societies where this kind of thing is condoned and supported.

NImumconfused · 01/04/2024 17:27

It seems very strange that knowingly exposing a sexual partner to HIV can be a crime, but exposing a baby to it isn't?

AlisonDonut · 01/04/2024 17:27

Will there ever be anything that these medical 'professionals' say no to?

marlfield · 01/04/2024 17:51

It's also the blurring of the lines (to put it mildly) around what is appropriate between an adult man and a child that is so troubling. At what point will he stop encouraging the child to suck on his nipples? There is no physical reason for it to happen other than his own gratification. What other touch and physical contact will he feel able to demand? How will he teach his child about appropriate boundaries and bodily autonomy when he's spent their early childhood violating them in this way?

I can't believe this is allowed to happen.

I wonder whether it's a crime to expose a sexual partner to HIV in Canada?

If so then this is even more fucked up.

I thought this must be a bizarre April Fools, but I see it's dated February.

HIV can be passed through breastmilk. In the West, the advice was that HIV-positive mothers should formula-feed, but IIRC, the advice to HIV-positive mothers in the global south was that they should breastfeed, because the health risk from formula prepared with dirty water was more immediate.

The advice in the West is now that HIV-positive mothers may breastfeed provided their viral load is undetectable because of the unique beneficial properties of breastmilk.

I have seen absolutely no studies showing that male chest secretions have those properties.

Soubriquet · 01/04/2024 20:42

This is abuse IMO. They are exposing the child to a deadly disease. HIV may be controlled to some extent but it’s still disease that they shouldn’t have. Just because some man wants to get his rocks off.

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 01/04/2024 20:47

I have checked the NHS online and the Terrence Higgins Trust, and neither of those embraces breastfeeding for HIV-positive mothers. Far from it. The THT page is more strongly phrased than the NHS page, and it highlights the risk of transmission from cracked or bleeding nipples. Each says that formula minimises the risk of transmission from mother to baby.

There are zero benefits to the baby from a male doing this.

endofthelinefinally · 01/04/2024 20:49

This makes me feel queasy. I was a midwife many years ago and if anyone had suggested that this might ever happen I would have thought they were insane.

SamW98 · 01/04/2024 23:01

My breasts get a wonderful plumpness and pleasing jiggliness when I have had progesterone the night before…. You’ll need some lubricant (personal lube such as K-Y jelly or similar, or silicone personal lube which may be overkill, or some sort of non-irritating oil; I use my own mixture of cocoa butter and shea butter) to allow free clearance for the capsule… Some people simply pop the capsule in their mouth to use saliva, but I like a more effective lube,” he commented.

Of course there’s nothing at all sexual or festishy AT ALL about this is there? It’s all about the infants needs - ffs 🙄🙄

This along with the other old man now feeding his grandchild to validate his lady feelz and help increase his breast size all aided by medical professionals is grotesque.

And yet anyone calling this exactly what it is risks being accused of bigotry, transphobia and even being arrested.

WTF has gone wrong in society that this is abuse of babies to satisfy a sick male fetish is now pandered to?
