I love it actually.
I don't know about anybody else, but I have never listened to an old folk song talking about 'brothers' or even 'men' and thought it didn't include me! For me, in a context like this, man, men, brothers - this surely means mankind, ie everyone?
Please let's not queer folk music (yes, I know people are already doing it 🙄) (probably deserves its own thread, had I the time/energy...)

The sentiment in those last 2 lines is so strong and true. He means all of us.
