Nothing is more important than GI, it is truly the new religion of today…

‘Slap in the face to all Christians in America’: US fumes at Joe Biden’s latest move on Easter Sunday

US conservatives have lashed out over Joe Biden’s proclamation that this year’s Easter Sunday will also officially be the Transgender Day of Visibility.

One day they will realise that the more visible (and vocal) the trans lobby becomes, the more annoyed other people get with the self-indulgent attention seeking behaviour. Then maybe they will stop.

Americans in need of a pregnancy termination are a group of citizens who feel pretty beleaguered at the moment. Has Biden ever sent a message to all Americans in need of a pregnancy termination which says “You are loved. You are heard. You are understood. You belong. You are America, and my entire Administration and I have your back.” does anyone know?

StealthSpinach · 31/03/2024 09:09

Religious symbolism on Easter eggs is very prevalent, especially amongst Catholics from Eastern Europe.

Banning the use of Catholic / Christian symbolism on decorations celebrating a Catholic / Christian festival seems discriminatory against those religions.

And what does the Pope say about women's rights and child safeguarding?

Pretty much the same thing:

“The best results and the most effective resolution that we can offer to the victims, to the People of Holy Mother Church and to the entire world”, the Pope said, “are the commitment to personal and collective conversion, the humility of learning, listening, assisting and protecting the most vulnerable”.

I don't think it's the clash with Easter that is the problem. It's the fact that the trans rights lobby is now so visible that to anyone who isn't already a card carrying member, all this extra visibility is going to do is irritate people.

We already have a whole month of the year for Pride, which now seems to be mainly about all the letters to the right of the LGB, then there's trans history month a few months later, and yet on International Women's Day which is only one day of the year to celebrate half the human population, trans women are also prominently featured. There is no day of the year when trans people and their issues aren't highly visible. The whole thing is just quite tone deaf.

The fact that it clashes with Easter this year is really neither here nor there.

This!

Happy Easter!

It's shit like this that makes people like me, who would otherwise vote for Biden just to keep Trump out of office, think 'Fuck it', I'm not voting for this bullshit agenda. Biden could make it so easy for himself, he really could. He could appeal to 50% of the population by just NOT doing this stupid shit, but he doesn't. So he's lost my vote.

LipstickLil · 31/03/2024 10:12

We already have a whole month of the year for Pride

And don't forget that LGBT History Month is yet another month where all the rainbow flags have to be flown ... That's two months out of every 12 that we're all supposed to 'celebrating'. I'm over it. And the gay people I know think it's ridiculous too.

Yes. He has said several times that if he is re-elected, he will restore Roe v Wade in federal law.

RedToothBrush · 31/03/2024 10:30

Well this isn't inflammatory or provocative to America Christians at all.

Face palm.

It just makes the comparisons about it being a quasi-religious movement which is in opposition to Christian values look fair and reasonable.

Slow handclap.

Ingenieur · 31/03/2024 11:46

So all those years of saying "no LGB without the T" were just a trojan horse...

As the T have another day just for them, can the LGB have their stuff back now?

HoneyButterPopcorn · 31/03/2024 11:48

I read a list to day - there are about 7 ‘Days of’, two weeks and of course pride month (which is more like 3) special days doing the rounds (mostly T or LGB which have been taken over by T). Plus all the women’s days that place makes front and centre.

what exactly is Biden up to?

I say to my (gay) sister ‘I thank you for your service’ when we see rainbow+ etc flags, crossings, marketing bing etc. 🤣

She is so fed up with rainbow washing and men telling her that she isn’t lesbianing right.

Whoosh!

That's the sound of the point, flying over your head.

The point being that if I were arguing that the interests and belief system of a small group of people who were born male should be prioritised over women's rights and child safeguarding, I would probably try to come up with a better justification to support it than, "The head of the Catholic Church agrees with me."

One wonders why the Democrats have not already done this.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 31/03/2024 12:15

Like a good many other people, Biden seems to have suspended all critical thinking when it comes to gender ideology. He and his team and many other Democrats seem to have blinded themselves to all the evidence from Europe casting doubt on the hormonal and surgical treatments being offered to trans-identifying minors. They are ignoring the obvious problems with using gender ID in sport rather than sex to decide who competes in women's events. They are (utterly shamefully) pressing on with allowing gender self-ID in the prison system! How can anybody think that's a good idea?

This thread (link below) makes very grim reading. I updated it the other day. Biden put out a message of support condemning transphobic bullying in schools, having swallowed whole the narrative that this very troubled teenager had committed suicide because of an incident at school the previous day. He and his advisers have totally ignored the facts of this very sad case, which are in the public domain - the girl had experienced years of horrific sexual abuse from her own father, who served a prison sentence as a result. She had diagnosed mental health problems and was known to self-harm.

I don't think Trump is following this topic in any detail either, nor do I think he's capable of doing so. He just sees it as a useful way to attack the Democrats. They are making it very easy for him.

Perhaps you missed the whoosh in my initial post that Joe Biden isn’t responsible for any of the points in the thread, and that no trans agenda has been prioritised over Easter

Joe Biden is the president of the USA. If he isn't responsible for any of the ways in which trans people's interests are prioritised over women's rights and child safeguarding in the USA, who is?

songaboutjam · 31/03/2024 12:23

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 31/03/2024 12:10

One wonders why the Democrats have not already done this.

My understanding of the issue is that the US Constitution itself has tied the hands of Congress in terms of what laws they can enact at a federal level, and that Roe v Wade was always on legally shaky ground (which is why the overturn was ultimately successful). For better or for worse, most decision-making power rests with the authorities of the individual states. This would presumably mean that Biden isn't in a position to make that promise and the Democrats are not in a position to restore Roe v Wade.

Anyone who knows US law, please correct me if I'm wrong. I can't find a source that isn't heavily biased one way or the other.

it Is entirely possible to craft a law at the federal level enshrining a woman’s right to an abortion OR a national abortion ban removing the right to abortion in states where it is still legal. I believe legislation has been forward on both sides. To pass such a bill would require a majority in both the House and the Senate, as well as the president’s signature. Since Republicans narrowly control the House, while Democrats control the Senate and Presidency, there is no chance of either happening now. If one party were to gain control of all 3 bodies AND they could maintain party discipline, such a law could be passed after the next election. It is important to note that there is far less party discipline (supporting legislation from your party) than in the UK. There have always been Republicans that oppose an abortion restrictions and Democrats that favour them, and would vote against their party on these and other issues. There is very little the President or others can do to force obedience, so the math is more complicated than simple party majority numbers might indicate.
