Hmmm... Shame he felt he had to apologise for her at the end.

Why would you feel you want to explain WAP to an 84 year old woman.

Slightly disappointed in him actually.

OP posts:
Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/03/2024 12:57

Unfortunately for him and them there are lots of other strong women who will be. Louis is himself older than many of us here.

SinnerBoy · 08/03/2024 13:00

Seriously - at the end, tripping over himself to ingratiate himself with the trans community “what can I say? she’s an old woman and won’t be around forever”

What a horrible little worm he is, hoping she'll die soon, so that he won't have to hear her opinions.

Goblinmodeactivated · 08/03/2024 13:06

Sounds awful. Love GG but cannot bring myself to listen if he’s just trying to humiliate her.

commonground · 08/03/2024 13:15

I don't have Spotify so can't listen but just the description (bolded bits) has riled me:

Louis rises at the crack of dawn to talk to Germaine Greer, the infamous writer, intellectual, and major voice of second-wave feminism. Beaming in from a studio in Castlemaine, Australia, they discuss her extraordinary life and career, including her three-week long marriage, flirting with George Best, and her controversial views on gender and the MeToo movement.

So "Marriage" and "flirting" define her and her views are "controversial" (are they? Who to? Oh, men probably).

She should never have agreed to it!

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 08/03/2024 13:21

Another day, another TRA openly wishing one of us dead with zero repercussions.

Wow just listened to this. What an utter dickwad Theroux is. Seriously - at the end, tripping over himself to ingratiate himself with the trans community “what can I say? she’s an old woman and won’t be around forever” 😱

I mean fucking HELL. Why do none of these seemingly intelligent male podcasters like Theroux Campbell/Stewart not fucking get it?! So depressing.

Because none of them thinks of women as being fully human, in the same way that men are.

vincettenoir · 10/03/2024 16:48

@Goblinmodeactivated it's still worth a listen. He doesn't humiliate her. He just fishes for controversial quotes and click bait and does not engage much with her answers. Just poor.

Vile little turd.

Is there anywhere to complain to about this comment?

This eager anticipation of the death of women who don't agree really should give people pause about this movement - but oddly, it never seems to.

I heard Jedward ( one or both, I couldn't tell, it was radio... would TV have helped, though?) say the same thing, that nasty unkind anti trans bigots will die out soon.
I wonder how Louis Theroux can justify being aligned with the likes of Jedward just because they agree on the trans issue😋

infamous? infamous ??? this is a Daily Mail favoured word - they don’t
understand what it means, either

Germaine Greer will live on, in her writings, books, interviews,
embedded in the collective consciousness of those she reached

LT will be remembered, if at all, for his association with JS

Could someone with Spotify tell me what is happening. I know who Germaine Greer is but there is more than one Louis. I'm assuming it isn't Prince William's son.

Wheresthescissors · 02/04/2024 13:03

Louis Theroux

Or you could just read the thread - it's mentioned several times that it's Louis Theroux!

What's that about?

I clicked on the link it took me to spotify, I don't have an account.

Having looked back at the thread Theroux isn't mentioned until well in to the thread and even then it is not clear who/what the context is.

Forgive me for not wanting to read 30+ messages to think, or they mentioned theroux, it must be him and then re read what was being said.

I think this article answers your question well.

The sadness of Sceptical Man | Victoria Smith | The Critic Magazine

Poor Freddie de Boer. It must be annoying to be a self-styled voice-of-reason type who’s thrown his lot in with trans activism — on the basis that it’s “kind” to do so — only to have trans activists…

Thanks for sharing the article by Victoria Smith: she always has something interesting to say. Let’s hope that after JK Rowling’s superb tactical moves over the past two days, Sceptical Man with his lack of respect for older, very established female voices will himself soon be a lone 🦖

For your benefit and also @commonground nobody needs Spotify just to listen to a podcast! Just go to the appstore and download whichever free podcasting app catches your fancy and has decent reviews. I use one called Castbox but they're much of a muchness really.

And yes, Theroux was totally out of line. I listened to it for Germaine who was sharp and entertaining as always, then deleted the little turd.

mizu · 03/04/2024 09:43

@FluffyToesMeow I agree. Listened last week on way to London on the bus. It really did feel like he was trying to catch her out.

I usually like Louis but this interview felt uncomfortable to me.

Someone in Scotland could report it as ageism hate speech......

Why would you feel you want to explain WAP to an 84 year old woman.

Is it her age or her sex that make you feel she is undeserving of respectful communication, @FluffyToesMeow
?

RoyalCorgi · 03/04/2024 11:35

Funny you should say this - I was about to say the same thing. Although it's galling that the Act doesn't include sex as a protected characteristic, it does include age, and so many of the TRA insults against women are age-based (old hag, you're going to die soon, old and ugly, menopausal, etc etc) that it provides some excellent opportunities for reporting them under the Act.
