'The Taliban police headquarters in Khost province issued a written directive Saturday to the media, declaring a ban on any phone contact between women and girls with audio and visual media outlets.
According to the statement, media officials are warned that facilitating phone contact between girls and media outlets will result in summoning and pursuit.
The directive accuses some private radio stations in Khost province of promoting moral corruption, citing school lessons and social programs involving girls as a primary example.'

What’s happening in Afghanistan is worse than The Handmaid’s Tale. It’s the most unbelievable misogyny and as cruel as it gets. What I can’t understand though is how the men are the ones who are obsessed with sex but it is the women who must suffer.

Why can’t the men wear blindfolds and headphones so they can’t see or hear women? Why do women have to be erased so that men can control their sexual impulses?

Plus all this spouting about chastity and virtue is a great big farce when we all know the Taliban men can’t wait for the day they enter the afterlife and have rampant sex with virgins. Did anyone wonder if the virgins might not actually want to have sex with these men? Did anybody consider that these virgins might want to be left alone? They didn’t shag anybody while they were in the land of the living so why would they want to start now?

These celestial virgins are not considered to be people with their own needs and desires. Instead they will serve as empty, clean vessels in which horny dead men can park their penises.

Perhaps the passive virgins awaiting these men in the afterlife will be the cadavers of 90-year-old nuns.

Men tend to be led by the sex drive and the other drives that stem from large amounts of testosterone........but they are also far more disposable, and also more emotionally needy/less emotionally self contained than women. A lone male is always a sad sight. A man with access to, and control of, females feels more secure...and his staus with other males rises.

Something I've been increasingly aware of is that on some level men seem to have a kind of herding instinct.....I'm always seeing men guiding their wives and girlfriends (with their hand behind their back......sort of shepherding them). 'Herding' them out of the way if there is a passer-by on the pavement, for example........My husband is always doing this with me, too.......so I've taken to noticing other men doing it with their partners/families.

I jokingly mentioned this observation to a couple i passed by last week - after I had seen him displaying this herding behaviour with her. He immediately came back with an instinctive " It's the only control I have".

In many families it is defintely the woman that controls the details of the domestic life......and there is even that saying " Happy wife, happy life" - which is meant to act as practical masculine wisdom for a successful relationship with women. Do as you are told and defer to her wishes.

What i see happening in Afghanistan, and in other countries in which religion plays a central and determining role, is that the instinctive forces and the fear of instinctive forces are ruling over everyone. People are forced into strict gender roles with ever extreme policing.

If you research this region in the 70’s women had some freedoms. Then it went back. Then it progressed again for a while.
I cannot comment on the ‘war on terror’ as it’s a hugely contentious issue and it’s not what this thread is about.
But there are young women now who just a few short years ago would have been in school and universities, working and having some sort of life.
They will have grandmothers who remember pre-1979.
Now they are being treated as non-human, and treated as prisoners.
It seems to me wherever you look in the world, whether it be down to politics, religion, war or conflict, it always seems to be women paying a high price for it.
I do appreciate that different religions and systems have different customs and that is fine.
But at one point do these ‘beliefs’ get twisted to keep women living like this?

Fun fact. The Taliban are younger as an entity than the Spice Girls

Taliban September 1994

Spice Girls July 1994

So tell me what you want, what you really really want?
All I really really really want is to oppress the hell out of women for all eternity - is that what zig-a-zig ahh means?

Allie47 · 24/08/2024 10:49

I feel so powerless to help them, it could be any of us, those poor women.

bringbacktheladiesloos · 26/02/2024 22:26

I do still think the 'threat' is simply women. I think men are terrified of the child bearing and holding together society power women have.

Let's face it - we'd only need one man per few thousand women to all conceive and carry on the human race.
Men more often take life away than create it. They're generally happier directing and fighting than co-operating and nurturing.
I think the properties of women for communicating, organising and cooperating are genuinely quite scary to a large number of men. I think this is why they seek to break down our communications and social networks. It's the first thing a typically abusive man does.

I can't let this go without saying that it's sexist nonsense to say that men are generally happier directing and fighting than co-operating. The louder and more aggressive men force people to notice them, but I'm not convinced they are a majority of men. I'm uncertain on nurturing - it's something I like doing but maybe not as much as many women.

RapidOnsetGenderCritic · 24/08/2024 10:55

I'd better add that I agree with the general sentiments of this thread.

CallingMeALamppost · 24/08/2024 11:03

@RapidOnsetGenderCritic, I'd argue that it's sexist nonsense to deny the experience of many women, who have found that men are happier directing and fighting. Even if that's on a lower level than society in general (for some men) and just relegated to the home/those it is directly in their power to control. This may of course not be all men but, given the resources (i.e. money/influence) to do so, I believe a large majority of them would do so.

ArabellaScott · 24/08/2024 11:11

We don't as a rule have to NAMALT on this board. Because women mostly understand that we are talking about structural patterns, or 'class analysis' if you prefer, supported by data, and aren't making comments that any man needs to take personally.

If women had the power that men hold, we would never treat men the way that they treat us.

A lot of men express the tribal and aggressive instinct through sport - either playing or watching sport After the recent riots that followed in the wake of the Southport murders - the police said they were monitoring a cross-over between football troublemakers and those taking part in the rioting. The football season has now just started again.

Other men channel this energy via their workplace/career behaviour with some becoming very driven indeed to win and succeed at all costs. Some males are more 'alpha' than others; though. Obviously the same with women, but maybe not to the extent that males are.

A lot of people, I suggest women especially, are channleing their nurturing instincts into dogs and cats - especially if they do not have children, or their children have flown the nest. Many young couples now seem to get a dog - as the focus for their relationship; a joint nurturing project.

I've said before: if the US, the UK, and Russia all put the squeeze on the Taliban, your money and weaponry stops tomorrow unless you stop this, it'd all be over in days. But no-one really gives a shit. If you really want to lean on governments to make them change policy, the tools are there.

Becaue females are not males......but I can well imagine women utilising men to lift, carry, build, dispose of things, and so on.......Women would utilise men in the service the mother/child/community unit. Letting women get on with the stuff they enjoy or are good at.

Thank you for this thread. I had heard about the medical students going to Scotland, but I didn't know about the charity. I've sent up a standing order to help them.

Me too - it was easy through their website. Thank you for the thread (although FOR FUCKS SAKE)

I'm afraid that I'm not sure this is true. I do believe at a group level there are noticeable differences in the behaviour of the sexes, but we are all human. Plenty of women are involved in modern slavery for example. Being a woman doesn't give you a free pass as a good person.

How, though? The US left weapons there, is my understanding.

Are money and arms still going into Afghanistan?

It seems it's not new!

This is from the 1600s: "Often a football match was the prelude to a raid across the Border, for the same hot-headed young men were game for both, and the English authorities learnt to keep their eyes on the footballers."

The Taliban is missing a trick. It's all very well stopping women from studying, working, uncovering, going out without a guard, and, now, contacting the media, but they can still talk to each other, at least within the family or at the mosque.

They're probably conspiring against you right now. They're laughing at you, or planning to cuckold you all. You should consider banning groups of two or more women assembling anywhere without a guard. If there are not enough mahram available, recruit castrated volunteers to be your spies.

Apply to the Australian government/judiciary for further information.

PermanentTemporary · 24/08/2024 12:44

Agree with @BernardBlacksMolluscs - women aren't a special repository of virtue. Whee we have the physical advantage (eg over children) the numbers killed by women vs the numbers killed by men are much more even. However, women don't have to be specially virtuous to deserve human rights (obviously).

Maaate · 24/08/2024 13:20

It's OK. According to Amnesty it's those that identify as women and girls that are oppressed, so all they have to do is identify as men and boys.

parkrun500club · 24/08/2024 13:52

On a flippant note, perhaps Mr Tickle should move to Afghanistan to get the full “woman” experience

I know it's a flippin joke isn't it. S/he would soon decide that they were actually male if they were in Afghanistan!

Agree. They just don't care about women though.
