The hashtag for this year is #InspireInclusion, so I can already imagine the content that marketing departments are readying for the 8th March.

I'm guessing it's too late to suggest #ExclusivelyFemale as an option?

The thanks I get from posters too shy to post agreement

Yes, I get lots of anon thanks too, as I'm sure most people do. Unfortunately many women prop up sexism and misogyny, or it would be much harder for men to perpetuate.

DialSquare · 28/02/2024 14:07

You conflate of "women" with "gender critical people," who are not only women, but also the most right-wing, anti-women, anti-trans MRA types. The thanks I get from posters too shy to post agreement shows I am not alone in my views.

What a load of old bollocks!

Peskysquirrel · 28/02/2024 14:13

If there is one word that gives TRAs away, it's "obsessed".

Every. Single. Time.

Sometimes I with there was on option on mumsnet had an option that you can mark a thread has gone off topic, and / or that professional agitators were sapping interest.

This seems to be happening more and more.

Froodwithatowel · 28/02/2024 17:34

We used to swap cake recipes or repair to ye old quaffing joint known as The Bunbury.

But failure to be nice while being used was deemed inappropriate.

DialSquare · 28/02/2024 13:47

In what way do you fully support IWD DadJoke?

None of us are remotely obsessed with Transwomen. I'd happily never talk about them again if they stopped intruding in spaces that are not meant for them. But you have been posting here for years so already know this. And before you come back with the equality act, you've been told on an almost daily basis that you are misrepresenting it.

Through a company donation. In the past it's been Global Fund for Women and the Orchid Project, as well as smaller charities which support women in developing countries to create small businesses. What are you doing?

allthevitamins · 28/02/2024 19:48

I've been interviewed at work for IWD today.

I talked about ongoing disadvantage in society from being born female. I talked about access to healthcare, education, enjoyment. I talked about oppressive gender stereotypes, and safety for women and girls. I also talked about inclusion in terms of the compounding effect of being in certain socioeconomic groups, or from a minority ethnic background. I talked about inclusion at work through recruitment outreach, manager training, and support for welfare issues, especially those more commonly experienced by women.

I don't think I said any of the naughty trigger words but I hope someone will see/read this at work and understand. I'm feeling emboldened by another thread! Thank you, knowledgable mumsnetters!!

allthevitamins · 28/02/2024 19:51

That should read employment, not enjoyment! Although that could also be quite fitting.

ArabellaScott · 28/02/2024 20:05

Well done, allthevitamins!

DialSquare · 29/02/2024 00:22

I too donate to particular womens charities. IWD should never include men.

I think I might start a thread later this week about this fake organisation. I am surprised it is still being used / quoted, but suspect it is because (as intended by the hoaxers) to be a business opportunity.

What is sad it that a number of women's groups have passively accepted it (haven't the heard of google or any other search engine?).

Was pleased to see that in the sunday times a female journalists (who I am afraid are usually the worst lazy suspects) referred to the UN slogan, and how too many are still mindlessly following the business exploiter.

Also had thought about a thread because I have found (after giving up my friday evening) copies of the articles written by Women's Peace News at the time Ventura Capital started to coopt IWD.

They were hard to find because sadly Women's Peace News no longer exists and some scented candle mindfulness type group has bought the URL.

Looking forward to the day when gender critical will have been coopted by a fashion company specialising in pink and blue clothing!

If I had any money I would place a bit on this happening.

You could try bunging the URL into https://web.archive.org/ to see if anything was archived from the old days?

crunchermuncher - Global Women's Day. The first one was in July last year, organised by the Women's Rights Network. I expect they will be doing it again this year.

I was surprised that there wasn't anything in "Campaigns" or "Women's Words", which would make it easier to find.

@Bosky - thanks. I have in fact found copies of the articles reprinted elsewhere. I just haven't had time to work out how to present them, as have now been in touch with two mainstream groups to point out they are promoting a business market venture. They were in fact pleased to hear, but had no idea (apparently ) of the UN, and the history of IWD. Beginning to seem rather a bigger task than I thought.

But a further example along the lines of how did gender start to be used instead of sex, how did it happen that what in my life time was seen as a socialist / workers rights celebration of women's campaign for equality is now assumed to be a celebration of sucessful business women????????????

These actions for IWM sound suspiciously terfy to me! 😇

  • designing and building infrastructure meeting the needs of women and girls
  • helping women and girls make informed decisions about their health
  • elevating women and girl's participation and achievement in sport

I too am being interviewed at work next week for IWD... my question is who my female inspiration is.... I was going to say JKR!

Also hoping it inspires someone to look into what's happening to women and children, especially at what JKR has actually said. I was going to centre it on her books, her fight for disadvantaged women, especially those in need of support for domestic violence as well as female prisoners. I'm hesitant to mention that she was doing all of this in the face of media backlash for being "controversial" as I don't want my interview to be centred around any controversy... But I might recommend "The Witch Trials of JK Rowling" podcast as a nod to this, without too much context 😉

Yes, there does seem to be a campaign by some to take up the bandwidth with repeated long posts apparently to stop discussion.

Isn't donating to the Orchid Project quite a transphobic thing to do?
