Ashley Dalton, Labour Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities this evening...

This evening Labour held an online meeting for LGBT+ History month. I called round to pick up something from a friend's and he was listening to what was going on — so I stayed to take notes and to listen to what guest speaker Anneliese Dodds had to say.

Steph Richards (TW) of Steph's Place seemed to be dominating proceedings and ranting about Labour Women's Declaration, Sex Matters, Julie Bindel, WPUK etc, who are apparently all part of an evil right-wing plot against trans people financed by the evangelical churches. Steph is very angry about this! For someone who identifies as a woman he seems very angry with women full stop. I've seen it written down before but never heard anyone actually say all the right-wing evangelical tosh without laughing. I hoped someone would disagree or laugh, but no one piped up.

Anneliese Dodds couldn't make the meeting by Ashley Dalton, Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities attended instead and said that when Labour get into power they will:
Ban all conversion therapy
There will be tougher sentences for LGBT+ hate crimes
They want more LGBT+ people in Parliament and driving policy and there's money available to support those who'll stand. She wants activists on all fora. (We all know that when they say LGBT+ they mean T+, but GC lesbians, take note and get in there. Contact Ashley Dalton for more information and about the funds available.)
She suggested that we might want to introduce the use of pronouns in CLP meetings.
She also wants to breaks silos and have all minorities coming together to discover what they have in common. I can just imagine how that will work. Steph will dominate those meetings, too.

This doesn't sound like the Labour party is planning to change its direction any time soon.

Fuck the Labour Party.

Signed a former Labour Party member who grew up in a very working class household in a working class Northern town.

I would vote Tory before I vote Labour at the moment.

Runskiyoga · 20/02/2024 21:53

Fuck them

TRAs love this particular piece of tinfoil hattery.

SilverCatStripes, I see this more and more as a game. So if you or anyone else want to play with Steph, pay your sub, self ID as bisexual or Queer or NB and approach your local Labour constituency LGBT+ officer and say you're there to answer Ashley Dalton's call for activists. Get in there and disrupt.

Steph kept talking about right-wing feminists posing as LGBT+ in order to undermine the trans community. There was no sign of that tonight so I presume that's just more guff. But he basically told GC women what they need to do, didn't he?

The rise of the new Victorians. Women know your place - it's men in charge now and you will be silent and not speak without permission.
And labour - who will soon be knocking on your door demanding your vote - have given me a platform to abuse you.

Not sure this is quite the stunning electoral strategy they think it will be 😂

ArabellaScott · 20/02/2024 22:20

Angry man rants about women, talks shit and is unchallenged.

Plus ca change, eh?

Well yes, in the Labour party. In the Tory party we have Kemi Badenoch - compare and contrast.

So are lesbians 'pretending' then? More erasure.

And when they say they're going to ban conversion therapy, let me guess, they won't be doing anything about rapey men trying to claim they're lesbian and forcing same sex attracted women to - what was it again - 'overcome their genital preference' or some such Talibanesque rapey shit?

ZuttZeVootEeeVo · 21/02/2024 00:21

They want more LGBT+ people in Parliament

I wonder if they intend to introduce all lgbt+ shortlists? There may be hope for izzard afterall.

IwantToRetire · 21/02/2024 00:21

Thanks for sharing this. Though not surprised.

But it just brings home that you cannot trust a word Labour says in public. Not just on women's sex based rights but a whole load ofother issues.

That however any of us on FWR vote, Labour will be the next UK Government.

I know it would never happen, but have got to the point that I think political parties shouldn't be allowed to hold meetings like this behind closed doors.

In the past there was the feeling that the media would be more questioning, but all they bother about is personalities.

Have no doubt the Tories are just the same.

duc748 · 21/02/2024 01:04

Every time I say, every time Starmer opens his mouth, I feel less inclined to vote for him*; in this case, it's one of his underlings, but the result is the same. Fuck you, Labour Party, if can't stand for what's right.

  • for the avoidance of doubt, of course I won't.
Brewdug · 21/02/2024 08:00

Oh dear. Dalton is my MP., fairly newly elected. I wondered where she stood on all this.

LesbianNan · 21/02/2024 08:28

Ashley Dalton is my MP.
She used to describe herself as a Lesbian. She describes herself as LGBT now and props all this shit up. If that's all she can campaign on then she isn't for me.

There are shootings and drugs, poor health and deprivation, in her constituency. Services have been run down at the local hospital. I've had to travel a couple of hours by two buses to another hospital in Merseyside for skin cancer treatment. It used to take me ten minutes to get to the local hospital. Dalton's too busy doing other things to campaign for us.

I've not seen one leaflet from her through my door since she's been elected. The Tories and Independents have leafleted around local issues at least three times this Winter. Nothing from Labour since last May's local elections. She is taking the local vote for granted.

I voted for her as a new MP. My previous MP, Rosie Cooper, was a great constituency MP. She was an effective voice for those with disabilities particularly.

Dalton is a great disappointment. She's done nothing locally apart from bleat a bit about the local Tory Police Commissioner, who has been quite good to be fair. Her Labour pal is trying to get the post back. Having done such a shit job last time, he managed to be voted out as PCC. Which was a difficult thing to do round here.

I can only see more of the same failure to represent from her on our local issues. She may well be re elected given her majority. This time I'll be voting local Independent.

Igmum · 21/02/2024 10:21

Awful but not surprising. We need GC lefty voting options for the GE.

Also, do I have to register somewhere for this evangelical funding? I seem to be missing out when every other GC woman is rolling in it.

EasternStandard · 21/02/2024 10:34

Ffs

Labour are so shit

Kucinghitam · 21/02/2024 11:14

<Awaits the usual vote-scolding to begin>

Floisme · 21/02/2024 11:22

I think I've damaged my spine through all time I've spent bending over backwards to make allowances for the Labour Party.

I did say I'd wait for their manifesto - and I still will - but I'm starting the check out the other electoral choices. In addition to independents and the possibility of Standing for Women candidates, it looks like the Social Democrats plan to stand in quite a lot of constituencies.

popebishop · 21/02/2024 11:33

Steph kept talking about right-wing feminists posing as LGBT+ in order to undermine the trans community.

That exposes Steph's transphobia then. It's not possible to pretend to be trans, is it - saying you're trans is being trans, unless they think there's some external criteria they are supposed to meet?

You just hold out your petticoats to catch the coins raining from Heaven!

Durn it, this is clearly the disadvantage of living in comfy trousers with elasticated waists. I'm sure I have some petticoats somewhere that I could wear over them (additional modesty may well be appreciated by the evangelical crowd since clearly the sight of my ankles will drive people mad with desire and that would be sinful 😇might get some bonus coins for that).

Damn! That’s why I’ve missed out 😳 I don’t wear petticoats… darn it

EasternStandard · 21/02/2024 11:44

This will really impact women and children when the T part has more money and voice in government as planned

We keep being told to not to be concerned

But reading your post op it’s clear where they are headed

Melroses · 21/02/2024 14:48

My family have been Labour on all sides, but I am done with them. They are a mess. No principles, only bandwagons.
