Let no-one say things can't get better.

Sending unwanted dick pics is illegal in the UK now. Spread the news.

The only downside to this is there is NO way the police can handle the number of arrests that will now need to be made. However, I think this new law is a great way of targeting male stalkers and sex offenders as online stuff is one of the first types of harassment they use. Also we can expect a lot of harassing TRAs to get hit by this.

Nicholas Hawkes, who was already a registered sex offender, sent unsolicited photos to a 15-year-old girl and a woman in February, a court heard.

I get sent dick pictures all the time on Facebook but they are usually from foreign blokes and Facebook do nothing when I report them! I would like to see Facebook held accountable.

AzureBlue99 · 13/02/2024 09:13

There was a programme on last night about prosecuting rogue police officers. There was one officer who was being investigated for revenge porn and during the investigation it was revealed that most of his female colleagues and contacts had received a photo from him of his genitalia (including 17 year old police cadets) and the view was, if you hadn't received one, there was something wrong with you. The mind boggles. What the hell is wrong with these men?

HoneyButterPopcorn · 13/02/2024 09:14

I’ve heard of airdrop flashing on public transport (never accept airdrops unless you know who it’s from!).

maybe we should reintroduce the stocks for flashers and issue rotten tomatoes and eggs…

achangewoulddougood · 13/02/2024 09:16

I nearly posted this on my FB to warn all my male friends. I don't think many men are aware and, having been on OLD, I doubt any have realised they regularly put themselves in a position to be arrested.

This guy was grim though, 15 yr old girl!

Eh? Why on earth would you warn them?

Warn them? Why? Maybe they just shouldn't send unsolicited dick pics? Who the heck are you hanging out with!

OhItsOnlyCynthia · 13/02/2024 09:19

I just hope it acts as a deterrent, because the police aren't going to be able to investigate the volume of cases they'll be presented with.

I have friends who use dating apps, and this has happened to them countless times. These perverts need stopping.

achangewoulddougood · 13/02/2024 09:25

Well, surely the point is to stop men doing it? We don't need to waste money on arresting every man, just tell them times have changed and hope they make the choice to keep it in their pants!

And yes, every man has sent one.

Boiledbeetle · 13/02/2024 09:26

Men really do need to realise that sending an unsolicited dick pic is just the same as the man in a trenchcoat flashing his dic at you in the park.

achangewoulddougood · 13/02/2024 09:27

I'm going to get a barrage of "not my Nigel" comments now, aren't I.
I'll go, don't worry!

Police are going to be busy.
The man in the story was already a registered sex offender.

Don't be so bloody patronising.
No, not every man has sent one. Some are mature enough to realise it's revolting.

Should also be part of educating boys.

Grin These men always just magically appear, don't they? Never anyone we actually know!

You've admitted up thread to knowing some.

No, not every man has sent one.

What a sweeping, crass generalisation.

achangewoulddougood · 13/02/2024 09:46

You must all be living under rocks. Every guy I have ever dated, men I talk to in pubs...probably not my dad because he can't even figure out how to charge his mobile....They ALL sit and go "oh no I've NEVER done that"! Do you honestly think most men haven't sent photographs of their genitalia? Madness. Carry on though. It's obviously not your Nigel.

IcakethereforeIam · 13/02/2024 09:51

I think most Richards have sent a Dick pic. Possibly not unsolicited. Glad this guy's been prosecuted. Pity laws like this are necessary.

I don’t believe every guy has. I know many women have a low opinion of men but I think this is a bit broad. I 100% believe my H never has. And I’ve never received one either, but I would absolutely believe it’s prevalent.

sweeping statements about a whole group
of people generally aren’t realistic.

EBearhug · 13/02/2024 10:55

I've been doing OLD for a couple of years, and I think I've only had a couple of unsolicited dick pics (and frankly, the dick pic was better than the saggy grey underpants and beer gut pic that preceded one of those - I did wonder what his thinking was, but better not to engage by asking.) Nearly all matches have offered to send pics, but they do usually ask rather than just send it. But it could well be an age thing - I'm mostly looking at men around age 50, and we didn't grow up with mobiles and the Internet. I don't know. I get plenty of requests for pics, too, and I suppose they're thinking, "I'll show you mine if you show me yours" or more, "I've shown you mine, so you'll feel obliged to reciprocate."

(Not one of them has been called Nigel. Or at least, not one has had a profile name called Nigel.)

In any case, it doesn't matter how many ask, because it is about unsolicited ones, and it only needs just one to be wrong. I assume some get off on the flashing aspect of it, else I don't understand why they do it. However, even if they don't prosecute every offender, they can probably do enough that most men will think it's too great a risk and won't do it. I assume thst is the aim anyway.

Guess I’m living under a rock? Do people actually think this is normal behaviour? I think everyone in my age group (50s) would understand clearly this was weird and offensive - no not saying older men would not, just saying I can’t see how they could be in any doubt it was wrong.

bombastix · 13/02/2024 12:52

Legally easy to prove! The offender is stupid if they do this with their own phone.

I'm so glad smart phones hadn't been invented when I was dating. Do men nowadays not have any manners or decorum? I hope lots of arrests are made, it's a disgusting thing to do.

I'm the last person to defend men but I have to say, I've OLD on and off for probably 12 years, spoken to hundreds of men. And I've never, ever received a dick pic.

I feel quite left out Grin
