What is a woman? Asking for some cyclists.

Over on Singletrack World, a site for middle-aged men who used to cycle, someone has asked ‘What is a woman?’

it’s mostly humorous replies so far, but over on that site many threads end up with flounces, deletions, and bans, no matter how innocuous the subject. There are a couple of TWAW NO DEBATE types over there, so there are bound to be ‘anyone who identifies as such’ answers.

So, what should I tell them?

Oh gawd, STW is run by idiots who are so right on, they think advocating for women only cycling is transphobic. I wouldn’t waste your time with them.

I came off their site after they launched a women only section for anyone who had she/her pronouns in their sign up bio. 🙄

If you would ring your bell and cycle furiously towards this person expecting them to leap into a hedge or the road or otherwise make way for you - that is a woman. If it is a person that you would courteously stop for - that is a man. My observation of MAMIL etiquette round here.

I wouldn’t waste your time with them

It's mostly quite good humoured as long as you avoid certain threads, and it is really useful if you ever have a bike problem ... or just about any other problem - somebody over there always has good knowledge of just about anything you could want to know.

The only answer can ever be Adult Human Female - I love the woke tripping up over their own inclusive talk though, if it wasn't so dangerous to women's sex protected rights it would be hugely entertaining.

The thing that all women have in common is a feeling. All children know what that feeling is so we must change their bodies, but adults find it so confusing they can't even begin to put it into words. It's not personality, behaviour, likes or skills, it's that thing, you know.

In fact it's so hard to say what it is, that essentially there's no difference between men and women, it's just that feeling, you know.

Anyway let's campaign to draft laws based on that thanks

If you're on there, please mention the safety aspect. It might not be massively relevant but women competing against men get hurt more and hurt worse in certain sports.

Or tell them to ask Hannah Arensman what she thinks .

You are correct, there are some lackwits on that thread, but also many great contributions. You can tell that some of the GCish posters are hesitant to say what they believe, but they would not let the 'Be Kind' people get away with it.

To be fair, reading that thread there are very few who are outright cultists. And the few that seem like they are at least put forth what one can call an argument. Of course those are still very silly ("have their identity denied", who in their right mind could possibly think that this is a good argument to allow some males to compete in the female category?). But overall the discussion is incredibly civil considering it's the internet and it's this topic.

Reading that thread it is blindingly obvious that all the people involved in that thread including the one who scolded others before anyone had even said anything 'contentious' all know what a sodding woman is!

I think Bob was inferring that women make men cry. A lack of woman means no crying. Therefore I conclude that a woman is somebody or something that makes men cry. By this logic the movies ET and Watership Down are women.

@oOmoonhaOo thats explains A LOT! I’ve been on these boards long enough to see that one trans person in an organisation is all it takes for the rest of the organisation take leave of their senses. To repeat, it’s such a shame because STW and Hannah the editor, have done so much to promote women in the past.
