Sounds like Alison is about to join the fray . I guess she is waiting for the verdict on Shahrar Ali on Friday in case the Greens see sense. This would be the fourth major case against the Green Party.

Alison Teal: Sheffield Central candidate 'poised' to take legal action against Green Party over suspension for transgender views

Alison Teal, who was given a national award by the Greens in 2017 in recognition of her campaigning against the Sheffield tree-felling scandal, was selected in September 2022 by local members as the party’s candidate for the Sheffield Central seat. Ms Teal had previously stood in the same seat in the 2019 election, finishing third.

But she has been suspended since October 2022 after a formal complaint was made about her by a Sheffield councillor Ms Teal did not wish to name. She said she believes the party is deliberately dragging out the disciplinary process so they can replace her with an “emergency selection” when the next election is called.

She said: “I’m still the candidate because I’m on a no-fault suspension. I was told a decision would be made by the end of November 2023 but they keep stringing it along. The strategy seems to be to wait until a General Election is called and then under those circumstances you would have to have an emergency selection so they would get to replace them.”

Astonishing. Has a political party ever had so many members take action against it?!

This one strikes me as possible the strongest case yet because I can't see any justification for stringing a complaint out so long when there is an election deadline looming.

Well there are so many strong cases.

Shahrar mysteriously moving from being an amazing deputy leader in 2014, the first from an ethnic minority, to suddenly being not suitable as a spokesman in 2021.

Emma Bateman being thrown out of the party, found innocent, thrown out, found innocent, and now thrown out again a few days ago.

Dawn Furness pointing out that Challenor was dodgy and being persecuted for saying it in a huge safeguarding fail plus much else.

Difficult to choose which is the most crazy.

It's getting beyond ridiculous.

They suspend and then drag out the proceedings for as long as possible, effectively brushing the issue under the carpet. Hoping we will go away.

Very much looking forward to the earthquake that will occur on Friday.

WarriorN · 05/02/2024 13:58

I also think it designed to instigate protest resignations.

Rightsraptor · 05/02/2024 14:54

I wish she'd name that person who made the complaint.

How strong to the Greens think they are, how much self confidence can they have that they behave as they are doing?

It's suicide.

Just listening to ‘The Climate Question’ podcast with the presenters wondering earnestly why more people aren’t considering voting for parties which aim to tackle climate change. Well, from a UK perspective, it would appear there aren’t any - the Greens are much more interested in hounding their members for wrongthink

GreenUp · 05/02/2024 15:41

I really hope she does take action. If you haven't watched this already, these Green party women gave a talk about the discrimination they've been subjected to by members of their party. It's really shocking.....

Best of luck to Alison. If her suspension is lifted it will almost make me wish Eddie Izzard had won the Labour selection for Sheffield Central - it would have made for a very interesting contest.

Go Alison!

Completely agree. It's hard to know how court cases will go, so I'm always cautious, but from out side this and Emma's look so clear cut.

That's not to say the others are weak- I think its madness they are defending any of them, let alone racking up more cases of bullying.
