medical associations in north america - gender affirming care

It seems that many medical associations in north america are strongly in favour of gender affirming care for young people, and oppose any government restrictions.

I have seen the statement by Alberta doctors shared in various places on the internet today (I have a variety of friends in north america) in response to government proposals:

https://www.albertadoctors.org/services/media-publications/presidents-letter/pl-archive/doctor-patient-relationship-is-sacrosanct/statement-from-section-of-pediatrics-gender-affirming-treatments

it states clearly that puberty blockers are temporary and reversible; it asserts that gender affirming care reduces suicide rates; and so on. It doesn't specifically give references for these claims, though it seems to be based on statements by the American medical association from a year or two ago (also abbreviated as AMA, which can make searching confusing), which do have references. The American medical association also is very strongly in favour of transgender people being able to use facilities of their acquired sex, and explains in detail how preventing them from using the toilets of their acquired sex can lead to potential violence (in the toilets of their birth sex), bullying, mental health issues, physical health issues arising from dehydration or long periods avoiding the toilets, and so on. There is no mention in the statement of the effects on women who are forced to avoid toilets as a result, or who face increased risks of violence in what are now mixed-sex facilities.

When these statements are posted on social media, it's very difficult to post anything countering these views, because they are so clearly stated, and to question them would immediately be seen as bigoted, or arrogant - who would go against the view of an offical doctors' association? And I understand that - I know that I would normally trust a statement put out by a medical association. I wouldn't question the references, and if I did, and were then pointed as those from the american medical association or somewhere, I wouldn't then likely go and explore those in detail. I'd believe that the people involved were professionals, and would have read and evaluated those, and come to conclusions that were better than those that I could come to, without medical training.

So I don't blame the average person for trusting these statements, and wanting to do the right thing, particularly when it's young people involved. If I hadn't had some prior knowledge from reading here, I would also be trusting doctors. The people I know are so thoroughly on the side of transgender youth being victims that suffer more than anyone else, and who deserve all possible support even at the expense of women, and it seems pretty impossible to turn that around, especially when statements like this are being publicised. So in the end I don't comment at all and just hope that it doesn't ever come up in other conversation. But more and more people there now have young family members and friends who have transitioned, so sooner or later it might.

Statement from the AMA Section of Pediatrics on gender-affirming treatments

Medical practices are a safe place for children, youth and families to explore options around gender- affirming treatments. This is a medical decision, and no one should be involved except the child, their parents if the child is not a mature minor, th...

That's the trouble with this ideology - repeatedly stating a lie becomes "a truth" 😞TWAW, puberty blockers are reversible, it's possible to change sex, some women have a penis and so on.
All we can do is show the reality - the research that shows these are lies, the way the young and easily influenced are being gaslit, the use of bullying and intimidation to enforce lies - and all the rest.
This will eventually collapse as everything based on a lie always collapses in the end. We just have to KOKO.

Yes, I think that is happening, so much just stated as truth and then anyone who doesn't accept that is bigoted. And some of the people I know have family members who are transitioning, so are even more sensitive to any hint of people being prejudiced, as they see it - and I'm sure they do face a lot of prejudice and discrimination - so it is hard to comment in any way negatively on such a statement without it seeming like a very personal attack that is immediately assumed to be coming from a place of prejudice, rathr than a place of just not wanting this to become standard care for young people because I think it is a dangerous path that isn't reversible for those who might regret it.
