Bedales seem to be doubling down, Taunton’s policy is under review. Christ’s Hospital say they give ‘careful consideration’ - does that cover all bases? Look like you’re thinking about it to appease but in reality never allow it?

£45K-a year boarding school REFUSES to back down on trans pupils plans

A top boarding school that charges parents £45,000-a-year for their children to stay at the school has refused to clarify its position on transgender pupils after reports suggest they had the option of staying in accommodation that matched their gender...

I wonder how long before parents are not sending their children to these places? I'd be looking for a school with more traditional policies, personally.

Flickersy · 23/01/2024 11:06

No, Christ's says "No student who is questioning their gender is allowed to share sleeping or changing facilities with others of the opposite biological sex to them" (copied from that article).

Bedales is refusing to address rumours, most probably because rumours are all they are.

Are single sex schools accepting opposite sex students under these policies?

Apologies yes it does go on to say that. It’s good they wanted that clarified.

'We treat all our young people as individuals'

You don't, that you wouldn't have dorms segregated by sex well gender to begin with. Or you would treat those the reject this notion as individuals and honour their wishes. No, you do what your cult tells you to do.

They're taking a hell of a risk, some of those parents will have very deep pockets.

Ours certainly aren’t. They’re a group of 4 all girls schools who will only accept the sexes the children were assigned at birth. I don’t know of any same sex schools who accept trans kids. It is interesting that any cases that I’ve come across in the news have always been boys trying to get into girls schools

MaggieFS · 23/01/2024 13:14

Hasn't Bedales always been a different style of school? And I vaguely remember issues from the late 80s early 90s? Going by the headlines alone, I would have thought this would be in keeping with Bedales?
(But it was a while ago, my memory could be way off, in which case I apologise).

Frensham Heights in Farnham allowed a girl who identified as a boy to sleep in the boys wing of the boarding house. Total insanity, not fair on the boys and cruel to treat a girl like that.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 23/01/2024 13:39

That's what happens when schools outsource their thinking to lobby groups with porn / paedophile conections like Mermaids. Safeguarding gets abandoned, children's rights to privacy from the opposite sex when undressed, sleeping etc gets dumped and the demands of those who should be nowhere near children get translated into practice.

Schools, including the independent sector, the DfE, teaching unions have all been captured by this ideology. All are responsible for abandoning their critical thinking and due diligence in favour of the oddballs who think that males must have access to girls and women when undressed and vulnerable.

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 23/01/2024 13:48

Madness. I went to a mixed sex boarding school and they went to incredible lengths to keep the girls and boys out of each other's dorms including expulsion on the second or third offence (or first but with another offense like smoking or missing curfew).

Students who were over 17 could visit each other's room, but only in the final trimester of the year, with a signed parental waiver, the dorm room door open, and "four feet on the ground." There were some other stipulations like visiting hours, I think it ended at 6pm.

This was 20 years ago so not a lifetime ago. The rules were so strict they're etched into my mind!

rogdmum · 23/01/2024 14:01

Gordonstoun makes it clear they would like to allow trans identifying pupils to live in the dormitory which matches their gender identity but accepts there may be difficulties with this- issues which they will look at during renovations or new builds!

Gordonstoun specialises in fucking up its students. My friend went there. It left her a nervous wreck, who has had a number of mental breakdowns. Both her kids have gone to the local secondary school, with an "over my dead body" response to her parents offering to pay for Gordonstoun for them.

They'll have girls in with boys as soon as they can find a way to do it. Cold shared showers are part of the communal torture oops happiness of schooldays. What could possibly go wrong?

A friend at a boys school says they have a couple who identify as girls, but I don't think they get much special treatment and are still expected to play rugby etc. I don't think they would take a girl, however much she identified as a boy, though I could be wrong. Friend is very scathing about it, at least to me. He is, despite being on the staff of one of the most staunchly patriarchal institutions in the country, a fairly good feminist ally on most things.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 23/01/2024 16:17

The Girls' Day School Trust are clear that places are reserved for girls. Despite their capture by this nonsense and their unforgivable approach to allowing their students to be gaslit by numerous lobby groups that changing sex is possible, they have at least held the line about their core definition and purpose - for now.

Froodwithatowel · 23/01/2024 16:25

There will eventually, inevitably, be a disaster from these experiments, and the one harmed will be a girl.

How the girl happens to identify at the time will not make any difference to the reality of what happens. There will then be a group who sees her as acceptable collateral damage to the bigger picture benefit, and a group who see that adults massively failed her in their duty of care and basic common sense.
