Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

I don't know why they even bother to write this rubbish.

There's a Scottish tw golfer whose won a, I think, major woman's competition in Florida. He thinks it'll be the start of some more important wins for him. I think it's reported in the Sport section of the Telegraph. I didn't have the heart to start a thread, so (apologies) I'm unburdened myself here. What makes it worse is he's being supported by an actual championship winning British woman golfer (now retired of course), whose name escapes me. Although another tw golfer, also now retired, who also competed in women's competitions (Bagger...something) is speaking against it on grounds of fairness 🙃.

The world is mad.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 21/01/2024 22:49

I’m speechless

LaLaLouella · 21/01/2024 22:51

Words actually fail me - do they actually believe this complete horseshit they are reporting????

Sheheshe · 22/01/2024 01:05

Also describes themselves on their ‘boudoir’ account as a ‘Hobbyist Model’ - Stats: 6ft 3 - size 10 shoe (handy for cycling obvs) - their ‘shoot styles’ itemised as ‘Alternative, Bondage, Erotic, Fashion, Fetish, Glamour, Lingerie, Nude and Portrait’.

Founding member of Queer Feminist Cycling Collective in Glasgow.

Well done Emil - what a woman!

Boiledbeetle · 22/01/2024 01:30

Another one of those male women then!

Happyinarcon · 22/01/2024 01:45

I think at this point the press are just shit stirring. I’ve noticed how they will always use the worse possible photo to put with the most ridiculous headline.

NotBadConsidering · 22/01/2024 04:34

So this is the latest thing, is it? Be the “first woman” to do something? So what is this publication going to do when a woman finishes this race? Ignore her? Of course they will.

So depressing. Maybe if we're lucky there'll be a "people born with uteruses" sporting category one day 🙄

SabrinaThwaite · 22/01/2024 07:15

Reported here too.

The comments are interesting - anyone pointing at the Emperor’s new clothes seems to have been deleted.

I don't think that article is anything other than serious. The interview is pretty hagiographic and the photos are far from badly chosen- he always presents like that.

Brain dead moderator Lucas has really swallowed the Kool aid. Easy for him, he'll never be in a position to have his sports wins or safe spaces taken away 🙄

seXX · 22/01/2024 07:34

From the article:
It’s always going to be more difficult for me and others [trans athletes], I think. Maybe that’ll change as I physically transition and can blend in, which I’m in the process of. I’m quite visibly trans. I still have masculine features. So [in the future] that might make me feel more comfortable, knowing that I’m not as visibly trans.

Isn't it a bit transphobic to say 'visibly trans'? I would say he just looks visibly male! I almost feel sorry for some of these people being fed the lie that they'll magically transition and pass as the opposite sex. I don't think he believes it but some younger ones do seem to.

Emil posted this comment: "I didn't ask to be put in the women's category, but if doing so shows that means such as the Tailfin bursary are available to help more women and people like me enter, then I count this as a positive.
I would also note that if there was a 'Men's' category and I was placed in it, I would not be happy and I would not be signing up again next year."

why was he put in the women's category of he didn't ask? Seems unusual..

hellsBells246 · 22/01/2024 07:45

Ffs 🙄🙄🙄

ZeldaFighter · 22/01/2024 08:00

Maybe we should just stop fighting it and let nature take its course.

Eventually there will be no more women competing and the naked Emperor will be on their own. Then maybe the governing bodies will act?

Edited

This golfer was interviewed (the usual fawning puff piece) on GMB this morning. However, today's presenters (Susanna & Ed Balls) had a very hesitant discussion pointing out the unfairness of men taking over women's sport. Lots of errrs, umms and sympathy about allegations of transphobia BUT they did both state the importance of women's sport for women.

Small steps and all that.

SabrinaThwaite · 22/01/2024 08:11

Interesting that Emil says more women and people like me - seems a pretty open admission that he knows he’s not actually a woman.

There were no finishers in the 2022 (first) event, but it was a woman who got second furthest.

He's a cheat. No one should celebrate cheating.

NotBadConsidering · 22/01/2024 08:54

I actually don’t think he’s a cheat. It’s an event, not a race and it’s the publication that has called him the “first woman” he doesn’t actually describe himself as that. He’s the 6th person to finish it. The 6th male. Obviously that’s a big achievement because it’s a tough event. But the publication was determined to apply that tag and delete anyone who objected.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 22/01/2024 09:00

Looks like no finishers in the 2022 event, which was the inaugural event, and six finishers in the event in 2023.

IcakethereforeIam · 22/01/2024 09:32

I've not read the article the OP posted but I skimmed it. It's a shame because finishing that event seems a hell of an achievement, something to be celebrated. Lying about his sex has, to me, tarnished that and I don't believe I'm the only person who would think that.

groveparker0 · 22/01/2024 09:35

I agree that this article has done the cyclist a disservice. It's an amazing achievement. They sound very interesting. The work with the refugee charity is excellent. I'd say being trans is the least interesting thing about this person and yet that is the angle of the article (I'm a journalist myself so I feel entitled to comment!)

He let them enter him as a woman. He's nor a woman. That's cheating.
