Their defence claims the fact that they’re transgender means they got a tougher sentence. And they pleaded guilty so should be rewarded with a lesser sentence AND apparently they’re helping to support other transgender inmates in jail.

It's in the Times too. Sorry, forgot to copy the archive link but if anyone has a share token...?

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/andrew-miller-trans-paedophile-seeks-reduction-in-28-year-sentence-hvpj5nh2g

There's a remark from a judge at the very end of the article that I don't understand, it seems to lack context.

I don't recall that his trans identity was given any weight, except he was able to entice the child into his car. TI usually seem to lead to charges falling away.

I'm sure I read at the time he'd constructed a cell hidden behind a wardrobe. That is obvious premeditation and makes me shudder as to what else he had planned for the child.

Andrew Miller: trans paedophile seeks reduction in 28-year sentence

Appeal judges in Edinburgh will consider whether the jail term was ‘excessive’ and put ‘too much weight’ on transgender identity

Miller claims to 'be in the process of transitioning'. He has been known locally as 'T*** Miller' since High School when he first started stealing women's underwear. He didn't quietly present himself as female, then get on with his life in a positive way, train as a social worker etc. He chose to try to present as 'motherly' to lure a young lass into his car & took her back to his house with an especially constructed secret cell 'room' behind a wardrobe. He planned to 'keep her for a while & then decide what to do next with her'. He is a predator whose only concern is for himself & his alter-ego / 'community'. The judge was correct to call him 'chilling' & 'every parents worst nightmare'.

Rightsraptor · 20/01/2024 06:41

More 'living as a woman' nonsense in the DT. The day anyone adequately explains that to me will be ... well, I don't know what it will be, tbh. But I don't think that day could come.
Nobody could have ever thought he was a woman if his photo is at all an accurate image.

I see he's now helping other 'trans' prisoners in the wing they've taken from women. Helping them in what way the DT does not reveal.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 20/01/2024 06:57

Surely the early guilty plea was purely because there was no way he could not be found guilty.

ArabellaScott · 20/01/2024 08:48

This was the Judge. Scotland's most senior, apparently.

'Judge Lord Carloway said: “I was rather disappointed in the judge’s report in this case.”'

Which suggests to me he may well have his sentence reduced.

'A written decision will be issued.'

Rape victim court cases outmoded says top judge

Lord Carloway says courts are still not good enough at dealing with rape victims and children.

medianewbie · 20/01/2024 09:02

Lord Carloway seems sensible (if that Report is anything to go by). If he decreases the sentence because of AM 'trans' status then justice in Scotland is done for. When will we know, does anyone know ?

'Miller was also said to have expressed concern over how his behaviour would affect the wider trans community.'

That's right. But showed no concern for the girl who was his victim.

Behold my surprised face that he's somehow managed to turn traumatising and abusing a little girl into concern for the precious "trans community".

He's all heart, too soft for his own good.

PiggieWig · 20/01/2024 09:58

I don’t disagree, however reduction for a guilty plea is statutory. There are set amounts - 30% for pleading at the earliest opportunity, 10% for pleading on the day of trial and adjustments I made for pleas made in between. If it’s the case that a reduction hasn’t been applied, it likely will be as it would be in the case of any other person who is convicted of an offence.

Interesting the defendant is reported as a male who was dressed as a woman when they committed the offence. I didn’t follow the original case and am wondering if they were always reported as thus or if the case is now being presented this way on appeal.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/01/2024 10:12

I think they tried to avoid mentioning his trans identity at all at first. So he was just "man".

Yep.

ArabellaScott · 20/01/2024 10:22

That BBC page/report seems to have been updated and expanded several times.

The archive dot ph site has several versions. This is the earliest one archived:

'A man has admitted abducting a schoolgirl while dressed as a woman before sexually assaulting her at his home in the Scottish Borders.
Andrew Miller, who is also known as Amy George, offered to give the girl a lift home in February of this year.
The 53-year-old instead drove her to his own house, locked her in a bedroom and refused to let her leave.
He then subjected her to a series of sexual assaults over the course of a day.
The court was told that Miller is in the process of transitioning to female.'

I'll see if I can post the archive.

I bet he would. Think of all the opportunities. And this is why we have safeguarding.

pronounsbundlebundle · 20/01/2024 10:39

helping to support other transgender inmates in jail

Well that's not disturbing or creepy at all. I wonder what those 'other transgender inmates' are convicted of?

And Bugger! I forgot to name change! I'm stuck as Arabella's love child now!

Sorry, not helpful, but I just wanted to highlight this comment as it made me laugh. @ArabellaScott not sure if you noticed it.

I want to be surprised and for the judge to not reduce the sentence but my overall feeling reading this is that I am sure Miller will get what he wants and it'll be another nail in the coffin for women's rights.

ArabellaScott · 20/01/2024 11:35

I did notice it but I'm trying to avoid getting stung for maintenance payments so I'm studiously ignoring it, Rum.

Truthlikeness · 20/01/2024 11:43

How on earth does the BBC get to describe this authentic trans person (lived as a woman for 6 years) as a man?! What could it possibly be about this predator that lets the BBC describe their sex accurately?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/01/2024 12:32

That'll be a nope, then.

It's now been unhidden

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 20/01/2024 12:36

justgotosleepffs · 19/01/2024 20:11

Furthermore, why are BBC using in slm their headlines the massively airbrushed image presumably from one of his social media accounts which almost certainky looks nothing like him, rather than any number of unedited images from the trial or sentencing?

Hmmm…..can’t think why?

Bet the BBC et al are all facing disciplinaries for gross misconduct for calling this lady a man in the press.

pickledandpuzzled · 19/01/2024 20:17

Social worker? No chance. Where I used to work you had to get an enhanced DBS check just to be able to do tech support for the social services computer system, let alone actually deal with service users. I'd hope the same would apply to support workers, but given the shoddy safeguarding processes of certain organisations, I'd not stake money on that.

FrancescaContini · 20/01/2024 21:40

Terrifying individual. Who gives a flying fuck how “helpful” he’s been to any other inmates? I wouldn’t care if he stayed locked up for ever, to keep him away from children.
