Welsh Govt leadership campaign contenders - WE ARE DOOMED

WelshSerafina · 06/01/2024 21:47

Fresh from the binfire of our awful Welsh Govt and First Minister Drakeford trying to sneak in self ID via a ‘Gender Quotas Bill’ that was leaked by Wales WRN and then squashed by the Presiding Officer because they didn’t have the powers ALL ALONG - we now have a leadership contest.
Two contenders - both terrible. One of them, Jeremy Miles, who is the Education Minister and a frequent visitor to Pink News has apparently now doubled down on his previous TWAW gibberish. If he wins, expect more attempts to introduce self ID. We really are in upside down world here.

We have a fight of Sturgeonesque proportions on our hands. They just won’t listen at all.

Tell them to look at what happened in Scotland, and Sheffield, and Brighton. If Izzard couldn’t be selected in Brighton…….

WelshSerafina · 07/01/2024 12:09

Honestly they couldn’t care less.
Nothing would surprise me now. Izzard has roots in Skewen, South Wales too. He’d have the red carpet rolled out for him by our Govt if he fancied standing for the Senedd. They’d likely give him a gold-edged open invitation to every ladies loo too.

Miles would be an unmitigated disaster for women's rights in Wales. Pink News FFS! That's a rag that genuinely loathes women (apart from the new breed of penis-women obv). It feels like Wales is Scotland #2 waiting to happen, and look how well that turned out.

Rainbowshit · 07/01/2024 12:31

Oh FFS. I was naively hopeful of some send returning when drakeford went. 🙈🙈

Rainbowshit · 07/01/2024 12:31

*sense

OldCrone · 07/01/2024 13:42

Jeremy Miles. One of those gay men who hates women.

But I don't understand why so many gay men are so on board with the trans agenda. Don't they understand that the aim is to sterilise boys who might grow up to be gay, after first blocking their puberty so that their sexual function will be impaired even if they don't eventually go on to have their penis amputated?

What makes gay men think this is a good outcome for these boys? Do they really wish this had happened to them?

WelshSerafina · 07/01/2024 15:32

In Miles’s case, I think it’s the pursuit of power, admittedly in a very small pond, over and above any actual ethical and moral responsibility. Depressing to witness

The problem is, I think certain men in politics love all this self-ID stuff because it means later down the line they can meet quotas for getting the right amount of women^* into their circles, without having to have any actual women* anywhere near the power.

And they especially love the handmaidens that go along with it vicariously while shouting down those of us who see through it with their demands to "be kind".

EarthSight · 07/01/2024 19:36

Oh God :( So depressing.

They're all competing with each other to outprogress England, whilst neglecting issues most people care about, such as unemployment, job prospects, and improving the NHS.

A big part of the issue is that so many of them are in the Cardiff bubble.

It really is a binfire. No prospect of change either. We just have to be prepared to crowdfund and get them into the courts. Like For Women Scotland did. They are obviously hoping that an eventual UK Labour Govt will grant them the keys to the gender palace

Sorry to hear this

I worry it’s all we’ve got left in politics for the left to differentiate

WelshSerafina · 07/01/2024 20:55

You could be right there. Plus the need for some sort of ‘civil rights battle’ to be seen to rally around. Shame it’s women’s rights being spaffed away in the process.
Why the heck we have to fight this when they can see what happened in Scotland and how that has played out is beyond me.

Just joining the pity party of despair for Welsh Labour. The only hope I have is Tonia Antoniazzi as my MP at least representing actual women in Westminster. But sadly my child has already been schooled on the “gender compass” by no outsiders and I don’t see it improving under either of the candidates to replace dripford.

Outspoken Women @women_outspoken
Just home from an event where Jeremy Myles, would-be Welsh Labour leader, said loudly and proudly that as far as he is concerned, 'woman' includes people born female and transwomen. Every time he was asked a question about women and equality he talked about trans rights.

Things look bad, awful. That just means we fight back harder. Scottish women show the way. On the face of it 3 or 4 years ago you would have thought there is NO way a bunch of uppity woman could take down the SNP. Yet it happened.

The situation in Wales is messed up because we have less media accountability. Because Welsh Labour are even more ruthless than the SNP and the Tories are.

Yet things are better than it seems. We now have a bunch of great groups Women Rights Network Wales, Merched Cymru, LGB Cymru, Labour Women's Declaration Cymru, and more all are well established and building. They just need numbers.

Ordinary Welsh people are on OUR side. Every time WRN Wales have done an public event they get an overwhelmingly positive reaction. So what we need to do is break through to the public.

Great blog post about this happening here:
https://www.womensrights.network/post/welsh-men-speak-up

The leadership contest is best seen as an opportunity to get break through and raise awareness, for direct action and asking questions which they can't evade.

It will last to March so we have a real chance to shake things up. We try to get Miles and Gething to divide from each other on gender - if Miles is a fanatic then we split him from Gething.

We contrast them to Starmer's British Labour gender line and get their position on record so they have to defend it in the General election.

Now is the time to up our game especially after Rachel Meade's win.

There is an online Welsh leadership event for Co-op party members tommorrow anyone eligible to get on:

https://party.coop/event/co-op-live-wales-2024-husting

We need to brainstorm the best questions to cause maximum discomfort and chaos.

I think questions over the recent attacks on Tonia over her exposure of the Welsh RU seism scandal, the division with Dawn Bowden and belief in women's sport are great to focus on .

Welsh men speak up!

Welsh women are used to being left out in the cold by our government. Our voices are ignored and requests for meetings have repeatedly fallen on deaf ears. We have even had to resort to just turning up and standing behind our First Minister on his publ...

What does Vaughan Gething have to say?

WelshSerafina · 10/01/2024 22:35

I see Dawn Bowden has been spouting Stonewall script again today. She’s a complete embarrassment. https://x.com/lauraj4sweast/status/1745118595221262736?s=46&t=v-c-_XT3Lv6Ow-vgwIBPeA

I watched that earlier. It was appalling.
She entirely ignored the question pertaining to women and delivered a sermon on trans rights.
Are the majority of women in Wales unaware of how little they matter or do they not care about losing all their rights - and their daughters' and granddaughters' rights as well?

It is a nightmare.

Bowden is completely ignoring the position of Sports Wales who are the ACTUAL body with responsibility.

"As a result of what the review found, the Guidance concludes that the inclusion of transgender people into female sport cannot be balanced regarding transgender inclusion, fairness and safety in gender-affected sport where there is meaningful competition. This is due to retained differences in strength, stamina and physique between the average woman compared with the average transgender woman or non-binary person assigned male at birth, with or without testosterone suppression. "
The UK's Sports Councils Guidance for Transgender Inclusion in Domestic Sport - 2021 p. 6

Great the Welsh Tories are raising this, but why not use the OFFICAL position of Sports Wales to make Bowden look absurd. Either she backs it or she doesn't. The same sort of line could be used on Miles or Gething.

Gething has said full on gender stuff before for sure:
https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/welsh-government-minister-calls-power-26000210

Yet, although he was the favourite earlier he is losing ground. Miles [a former Blairite is now seen as the "left" candidate] and Vaughan Gething seen as closer to Starmer. Gething was seen as frontrunner, but Miles now has more support from members of the Senedd.
So Gething will be looking for ways to get more support and a bunch of Constituency Labour Parties are actually pro-women.

It is possible Gething might also move to take a milder line because that would be in more in keeping with the shifting Starmer position. On the other hand he might not.

That is why we need people to get to hustings ask awkward questions try to get them to commit one way or the other or argue with each other. Or make it plain they both despise women - then we know where we stand. We have till March to cause maximum trouble. This time the media are more likely to get involved if we keep active.

Sport is a good one to focus on. Because the public see right through the nonsense.

Welsh Gov minister wants power to make it easier for people to change gender

From the article

The Tory MS asked Drakeford on Tuesday about gender self-identification :

‘There are obvious, justified concerns following the Scottish legislation being rushed through and, due to the nature of the United Kingdom, how it will impact women here in Wales, particularly with regard to 16 and 17-year-olds and sex offenders now being allowed to self-ID without medical diagnosis, and the clear and obvious risks that come with that. What conversations have you had with the Scottish and UK Governments on how this legislation will affect us, and will you therefore rule out such legislation in Wales?’

To which Drakeford replied:

‘Well, I’ll certainly not rule out any such legislation, Llywydd [Speaker], nor do I accept that the Scottish Bill was rushed through the Scottish Parliament. I have indeed had an opportunity to hear directly from the Scottish First Minister about the passage of that Bill, and it was very thoroughly and very carefully debated through the Scottish Parliament’s own procedures… We will do as I’ve said, Llywydd: we will seek the powers. If we obtain those powers, we will put them to work here in Wales, and we will put proposals in front of this Welsh Parliament, so that those people seeking gender recognition are able to do so in a way that is not stigmatised and does not involve them having to go through a lengthy medicalised route in order to establish themselves in the way they themselves would wish to see established.’

So Welsh Labour are still backing self-ID, in the face of Sir Keir Starmer (now) saying the opposite. So much for message discipline…

That article shows that Steerpike, unlike FWR, hasn’t been paying close attention to the precise wording of the UK Labour statements, which only committed to opposing Conservative attempts to undermine EA2010. They haven’t committed to opposing SNP attempts to undermine EA2010 (eg via their GR bill). Nor to opposing Welsh Gov attempts to do so via a GR bill.
