She’s absolutely spot on. I’m sure there’ll be a backlash but most people will completely agree.

The DM has many faults but it does seem to be the one MSM outlet that’s shining a light on the madness of gender ideology .

JULIE BINDEL: This gender ideology is a crime against a generation

JULIE BINDEL: Over the last generation, our society has thankfully moved away from compelling children to be 'proper' boys and girls. But now all that has changed in a very disturbing way.

I guess you have to question why the articles linked on this board are always to the DM shit rag

Groundhog Day comes round earlier each year

Yes the Morning Star is hard left Corbyn supporting.

Well she’s right, but the use of stock DM phrases “right on” and “do gooder” as pejoratives feeds the “GC = right wing” narrative.

I'm not sure why you'd view “do gooder” as a pejorative coming from the right wing. "Middle-class do-gooders" have always been criticised by working class people.

IrresponsiblyCertainAboutSexualDimorphism · 28/12/2023 09:52

NotBadConsidering · 28/12/2023 09:00

Luckily we know a) it’s not true, people who are “GC” who believe in reality come from across the political spectrum in the same way people who know the earth is a sphere do b) it’s become yawn-inducing to bother with people who don’t believe in this reality either.

I couldn’t care less where people think my political beliefs lie based on being grounded in reality, as if them screaming “you’re right wing!” is any sort of decent insult that will make me pause for thought 🤣🤣.

Well yes, but we’re in our own echo chamber here.

The use of these terms is polarising and the TQ+ activists will just use this as further evidence that GC is RW and therefore bad. I’m not saying this is justified or logical, but it feeds that mentality.

I think “do gooder” is used across the spectrum, isn’t it? I’ve heard it used against the lifeboat volunteers rescuing the people crossing the channel in small boats and against hunt saboteurs.

Anyway, my point remains that using insults that leave the door open for the argument to be dismissed is unhelpful. The article would be more powerful with bare facts.

Citrusandginger · 28/12/2023 10:03

I'm wary of people who sneer at the sun and the DM, even though I disagree with the newspaper's whistle dog politics.

The conceit of "we are better educated and read the guardian, so we are right and you are wrong" is part of the reason TRA's got so far. Brainless be kinder's falling over themselves to prioritise privileged men.

Unfortunately because other media wont shine a light on it. I never read gthe DM and wont click on any links to it (cant anyway as I have ad blocker), I was a Guardian reader until all this started. Now I wont read that rag either.

Floisme · 28/12/2023 10:08

Is this seriously the main take from an article about sending 3 and 4 year old children to a transgender clinic - that we must be careful in case some people think we're right wing?

If it's used across the spectrum, then it's not right wing.

Apparently. Because being thought to be right wing is obviously far worse than being complicit in the sterilisation of children.

One of the bare facts of this movement is there are idiotic people who think they’re doing good. Do gooders. People who have been co-opted by the nefarious element.

No. I’m saying that adopting the sneering tone of the DM plays into the hands of the TRAs.

All I’m saying is don’t give the TRAs more ammo. It goes without saying that the points that JB is making are valid and shocking.

NotBadConsidering · 28/12/2023 10:23

“Sneering tone”? You’re talking about the Guardian, right? Condescending sneering tone to people concerned about women’s rights?

”plays into the hands of TRAs”. So TRAs are going to win over the Daily Mail readers by pointing out Julie Bindel is sneering at them 🤣🤣

Fucking hell. No. The TRAs use this as evidence to their brainless followers that JB is secretly right wing therefore her really important points about the appalling harms to children can be discounted.

What does the Guardian have to do with anything?

Floisme · 28/12/2023 10:34

I think what really plays into the hands of TRAs is worrying about what they and their followers might say about us and adapting our language to try and appease them. It won't.

So TRAs tell other TRAs and their brainless followers something more believable that “trans women are women” and we, or Julie Bindel, are supposed to be concerned, because….why?

Who cares what they tell each other?! They tell their followers they won’t lose their sexual function and fertility, who cares if they tell them Bindel is right wing? We know they tell their followers the world is out to get them, Bindel shouldn’t have to rein it in, for that reason, it’s like building a dam of sand at the beach. She’s not trying to appeal to the brainless followers of TRAs, she’s appealing to the middle ground of people who actually matter.

The Guardian would have been a more realistic example of articles with a sneering tone.

MyLadyDisdainlsYetLiving · 28/12/2023 10:36

But what wrong with being right wing? Why the terror about that label?

I’m politically very left of centre and will disagree with many positions held by someone whose politics are right of centre. But I recognise they are legitimate positions to hold even as I disagree with them. The country has voted for right wing government for the last thirteen years. It’s hardly a tiny minority.

Floisme · 28/12/2023 10:36

Anyway is there any chance at all that we could get back to discussing the contents of the article which is about what some adults are doing to children?

I think the real question is why so few left-leaning media outlets are refusing to DO THEIR FUCKING JOB and report the truth.

Any thoughts on that?

Nothing.

But there are some very hard of thinking people who like to believe right wing = bad and left wing = good, therefore the views of anyone who is or appears to be right wing can be discounted, and moreover their views are evil.

Critical thinking should not be a 'fragile flower' that needs to be protected.
If an argument doesn't stand up against a reasonable challenge, perhaps it is not a very good argument.

Isn't the Daily Mail the most popular paper in the UK? And many of its readers are Tory voters who are quite happy to be labelled as right wing.

The hard of thinking people you describe are likely to be Guardian readers. They won't even read this article because they wouldn't go near the Daily Mail in case they catch some right-wingness. Those hard of thinking people won't be affected by this article at all.
