Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Liz Fraser’s actions speak louder than words. Earlier this year we asked the question, Is Liz Fraser truly helping all women or just herself? We concluded, just herself. What do you think?

Liz Fraser boldly proclaims her mission to help women lead their best lives, presenting herself as a parenting expert, novelist and travel writer with wanderlust.

However, this prompts questions about whether she actively monetises these claims, potentially leading vulnerable individuals astray.

When one positions themselves as an expert in the public domain, people reasonably expect scrutiny and dialogue regarding their views and actions.

People have raised concerns about her Substack subscription promises not being fulfilled, potentially breaching consumer protection laws. This ongoing discussion aims to safeguard women from potential exploitation by someone in a privileged position.

Liz Fraser’s privilege, including her race, class, attractiveness, financial support, education and freedom from financial burdens, has granted her a prominent voice. This discussion explores whether her privileged position overshadows the voices of marginalised women.

Recent revelations about her personal life, including alleged affairs with married men and hurtful actions towards their spouses, have raised ethical concerns about her character and credibility as an influencer.

To assess the validity of her recent posts, it’s crucial to separate her personal life from her public work. Her public work being anything she advocates for direct or indirect financial returns.

This discussion seeks to comprehend the objectivity and authenticity of her work in areas such as domestic violence, parenting, mental health, neurodiversity, travel, running and holistic well-being.

It focuses on her recent postings without mentioning ex-partners or children by name and aims to ensure that all women have a voice beyond Liz Fraser.

Your voice is valid. You deserve to be listened to.

Just want to check in and thanks to all for the side splitting posts on the other thread 😆 such brilliant ones. In a very busy period at the moment but really enjoying the hilarious threads regardless

CostedStrikeRate · 26/12/2023 12:01

I'm only familiar with the Cocteau Twins LF.
But the one you describe... surely Tattle Life are aware of her too? But I guess you need an invite to that?

Intriguedbythis · 26/12/2023 12:05

@CostedStrikeRate yes she’s got two threads on there too. The reason it’s also widely shared on Mumsnet is some Mumsnet’ers were duped into paying Liz Fraser when she was asking donations claiming poverty as a single mother. But she turned out to own multiple properties outright. As her ‘niche’ has often been targeted to mothers , lots of us believe she should be widely shared on here. Especially as she presents herself as a ‘child expert/ parent expert’ on national TV. ( no one has ever been sure where she got these titles from- presumably because she wrote a book called yummy mummy?! A couple decades ago…) but anyway, that’s what she claims and operates under..

So that's what, three Liz Frasers now? Never heard of this one either, but unfortunately it seems a well-trodden path these days; get yourself a bit of SM notoriety, and then monetise it.

pickledandpuzzled · 26/12/2023 13:40

That’s really helpful, and explains so much.

It may be worth including a ‘long running discussion thread’ in the OP, too, so clueless people like me don’t wander in all confused and bewildered!

I would say that we need to be much more savvy about subscriptions patrions and fundraisers.

People need to understand there’s no accountability. I’ve seen some appalling enthusiastic dodgy fundraising

The thing is, @Variedviews , you open the thread as though it’s about someone really significant. You make serious accusations about them, as though you hold them to a high standard because they are a role model.

Without the context of who they are it’s hard to have an opinion.

It sounds serious , but if her influence is so limited then is it really serious?

The thing is while this person may be of no significance to you, it will be to those of us who have been sucked in and exploited (financially and emotionally) by her.

Munsnet is a forum with 1000’s of different threads, I don’t expect each of them to be of interest to me and neither should you.

instead of expecting strangers to research for me, do your own, we are not your personal assistants.

Still baffled as to why this is in FWR. Sex and gender rather than FWR chat

HoopLaLah · 26/12/2023 14:57

Hi OP.

Your previous threads were in “Feminism: Chat”.

You might want to ask Mumsnet HQ to move this one to the same forum to make it easier for your group to find your latest thread.

This one has accidentally been posted in “Feminism: Sex and Gender Discussions” - which is why posters here are confused by the thread appearing here, as it’s off-topic for this forum.

Askmeanything1 · 26/12/2023 15:26

Are you sure you're not providing free advertising? You're doing an awful lot of introducing her to people who have never heard of her.

MidWineCent · 26/12/2023 15:27

Yes @HoopLaLah I was waiting for OP to say that Liz Fraser's campaigns included trans-identifying males, in which case this thread would be relevant here.
It's an easy mistake to make @Variedviews but perhaps ask MNHQ to move it to Feminist chat or AIBU?

eyeballs Is this a thread that has been posted here for traffic? Mind you, it could be one of the most popular threads on the non-shunted board….

I guess the question is, is this person anything to do with the discussion about sex and gender? If so, I am all ears as to what she has done and why? If it is for traffic, it is a sure sign that the forced split was a failure as predicted from the start.

I must admit to not seeing many, if any, of those who pressured MNHQ for the split to post on that board. But maybe they all miraculously changed name.

Variedviews · 26/12/2023 19:43

Ah @HoopLaLah, thank you. I will do.
