Sex may be a more useful explanatory variable than gender identity for predicting the performance of athletes in mass-participation races, a new paper has found.

Thanks @Needmoresleep I’m not a runner so the entry times point didn’t occur to me. It would be interesting to ask the researcher if they had information on how entry times for the NB races compared to those for other equivalent races.

There are no references listed in that article, so it looks like readers are expected to take that unlikely claim as fact.

This was just an extract from the twitter response, and I think the link is there.

And was posted because people were making comments like "is the Pope a Catholic) and one of the co-authors pointed out while they had done it.
