Dr Az + Benjamin Boyce: Tavistock was known to be homophobic...and lots more

Forgive me if this has already been shared: I've done a search and can't immediately see it.

This is the most fascinating discussion I've heard on this subject for a long time. Dr Hakeem says the Tavistock was known to be be homophobic and run by people who thought that transing a child was a good alternative to a child turning out to be gay. Plus a really fascinating and detailed discussion about the huge variation of behaviours and motivations that consititute 'trans' and how prevalent autism is in those who identify as trans. I know he's got a book to flog but so much of what he is saying crystallises what many of us have felt and 'known' all the way along. In my case, the friend who thought her sex life with her partner was wonderful (she said several times that although they didn't have sex often he was a fantastic lover when they did, it was as if he'd read a book on how to please a woman) until he started transitioning, they broke up and he started seeking sex with men and she realised he probably had read a book.

Also really terrifying for anyone seeking a therapist for a confused young person. As Dr Hakeem says, good therapists are refusing to take on clients with trans issues for fear of being sued for conversion therapy down the line.

Before (and After) Trans Was Cool | with Dr. Az Hakeem

Dr. Az Hakeem discusses his years working as a psychologist with sexual deviants and the gender-distressed. Cool guy! Give him a follow and his book a read:D...

I saw that interview the other day and have just bought the book, as I'd really like to know far more about the pathology behind this condition/group of conditions.

It's fascinating, isn't it. I have a friend whose high-functioning autistic adult son (living in the US) has transitioned, has a new non-gendered name he's created for himself and prefers to be called 'they' but doesn't mind being called he-him. He's had an orchidectomy but no cross-sex hormones, continues to wear male clothing, uses male loos, plays male sport and has a girlfriend whom he appears to treat well and respect.
