No idea why he's resigned, but I can't say I'm sorry. Any chance at all he might be replaced by someone who isn't fully on board with the gender woo?

The problem is that his replacement is unlikely to be any better...

True, but the election campaign which will last a few months will also give a chance for dissenting voices to be heard for a change. Remember how the Scottish leadership campaign gave more prominence to gender issues. In Wales Welsh Labour have attempted to create a no debate zone everywhere - the campaign will actually push them out into the public away from their "safe areas".

I believe that those pesky Welsh women who think they actually exist are likely to make an appearance at more than one event. There are way more of them than before, better organized and lets face it rather angrier.

His son was adopted as a teenager and had a very troubled life. I would be wary of using that against him. Also I’ve been in many meetings with him and found him to be a fair man who works hard and listens to others. He and I may not always agree on everything but I think we have lost a very good leader today and it’s been a rare case of a politician sticking to his word and knowing when the right time to go is.

He certainly doesn't seem to listen to the citizens of Wales, but I don't think most politicians in Welsh Labour do. An entrenched government is unhealthy and has led to very mediocre leadership and policies

I think he's far more likely, after all his appearances at Pride this year saying TWAW and refusing to speak to women's groups that Keir Starmer has been on the phone to ask him to tone it down before the election. Labour are trying hard to row back on the whole GI thing, they know how unpopular it is, and having Drakeford banging the gong for men in women's spaces here in Wales and clinging to TWAW long after everyone else has backed away from it is embarrassing for Labour, as well as Wales.

It coincides with Drakeford's one-term promise (made so that he could retire at 70) so it's a dignified way for him to back out. Of course some people fall for the 'sticking to his word' number but it's not about being noble, it's about him retiring.
