An article on the cost of the ad campaign (£50k) and two women who suffered health issues after going through the donation procedure.

'Ms Gibson [of Surrogacy Concern] added: "Egg retrieval has proven fatal to at least two women in the UK, and shouldn't be being advertised by a national government at public expense. The adverts run by the Scottish Government for egg and sperm donors don't list side effects or health risks. Women's eggs are not commodities to be harvested and shared out amongst the public.
"Our issue is treating all women's bodies like they're a resource and treating eggs as a commodity to be taken from them."'

SNP Government 'shock' campaigners with £50k spend on egg retrieval adverts

Exclusive: Campaigners highlighted the cost in light of 'severe budget constraints' while women highlighted their traumatic experiences undergoing the risky procedure

There does appear to be a higher proportion of LGBT MSPs than in the general population, so I can see why they may want to do this. I find it absolutely abhorrent.

Sorry, didn’t think that through. I was thinking more of surrogacy needs in gay couples. Still think this sort of advertising is disgusting.

Similar to GourmetLettuceMix
My mums friend gave her sil eggs in her 20's and then had multiple unsuccessful pregnancies when trying for her own. She had failed ivf attempts and eventually after 10 years had her dc with ivf. She has pcos, severely thinned hair and is now showing signs of early menopause

Maybe because there are lots of people who genuinely don't think genetics/biology matter when it comes to building a family. This particular board is populated by people who by definition think genetics/biology of crucial importance, but outside of that are people with a broader range of views and experiences.

I underwent icsi IVF in 2004, 2006 & 2007. ALL times I developed OHSS despite the 1st cycle being NHS controlled & subsequent being at same clinic who by then 'knew me', medically speaking. (at that time at least) Huge doses of hormones are applied to the ovaries to produce hyperovulation (ave of 30-40 eggs per cycle, I hope its less blunt force now). I'm very rural & on the 3rd occasion the clinic couldn’t reach me so asked the Police to come to my door to advise me to go straight to A&E after they'd (belatedly) analysed a blood test (apparently the Police said it wasn't their remit so clinic called local GP who attended & called 999!).

Not 'typical' perhaps, but there's always some risk as a woman's reproductive system is being tampered with to produce abnormal results.

I was lucky to have had my kids. But nluckily I had an unusual reaction to the IVF drugs & developed severe symphysis pubis & all other ligaments affected. 20 years later I still mobilise with a crutch. So I'd say ALL elements of assisted reproduction are much more dangerous for women than men.

The Scottish Govt is being massively irresponsible.

wait, what? I knew it was painful and a process that can't just be done as an outpatient and then shake it off (like sperm donation) but potentially fatal? WTF?

I've done it 6 times and each time was an outpatient procedure.
