Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

GC Group at work

Hi All

I work in the public sector in an organisation of 7000+ staff

Yesterday the Sex Equality & Equity Network (SEEN) aka Gender Critical group was stood up and made their first post on the internal social media type forum. This group will sit under the banner of the civil service SEEN group.

There was quite a lot of comments on the first blog post that set out FAQs and Aims etc. Many thinly veiled accusations of transphobia were posted and general TRA hostilities. e.g asking would they happy for transmen to be forced into the Female changing rooms if they "got their way" and single sex changing rooms were brought in etc.

Later in the day there were charitable donations being publicly announced on this forum by Non binary and Trans folk (to Mermaids of all charities) that match in £ the number of likes this SEEN blog post got

Has anybody else experienced this kind of thing in their workplace in regards to Gender Critical views? Will it ever get better or every time there is a discussion will it always be this hostile?

Self-censorship by GC staff may well have allowed TRAs to seem reasonable (nothing for them to push back against).

Now these new comments make any such commentators look unhinged, and provide more evidence that such a network is needed (although of course any group has the right to have a staff network and there shouldn't be a high barrier to "proving" its right to register!)

Yes. It's still apparently sinking in that since Forstater, people are no longer allowed to openly discriminate against gender critical beliefs.

Oh my word, this has been the best belly laugh I've had all day. Thanks for the link to the reddit.

'I've never been more disappointed in my department than seeing the SEEN network promoted on the front page of the intranet this morning, the week after Trans Day of Remembrance.'

ArthurbellaScott · 01/12/2023 13:10

'My own department has had something of a schism within the LGBT network recently, with a high profile (both within the group and the media) member of the trans community now detransitioning and becoming a vocal opponent of trans advocacy. As you can imagine, SEEN has been all over it.'

😶

There's a "feminist" on there whining about how the gender criticals (sic), uphold gender stereotypes. 🙄 how are they this stupid?

SEENMember2023 · 01/12/2023 17:21

An update from today

A man commented today to point out that in the FAQs it says "gender identity (if you have one)"

He went on to say that "everybody has a Gender identity and that suggesting it is optional, shows a lack of understanding"

Shoot me now

He then went on to say he hoped the SEEN network continues to engage with the LGBTQ networks to ensure it doesn't become a "safe space to hold ignorant or bigoted views"

Nearly spat out my tea!

@SEENMember2023 if you fancy a join up or a shoulder to cry on/safe space for a rant, DM me your details or department and I'll get our network leads to be in touch with yours.

popebishop · 01/12/2023 19:44

That person is bigoted against agender people. I hope he educates himself.

Tallisker · 01/12/2023 19:49

Talking of agender people, one of the commenters on the launch of SEEN page shared a link to the CS trans network a:gender for an alternative view. Can you imagine the absolute meltdown/furore/brouhaha that would have happened if SEEN had posted something similar on the a:gender page?

I have the rolliest of rolly eyes. My optician is quite concerned. 😁

#NoDebate it's the exact opposite of critical thinking

Then go on their website and do exactly the same. What's sauce for the goose....

Just read the Reddit link. Yep, that's the abuse we get all day long. Got to be strong, our beliefs are as important as any one else's and GC belief's are protected in law. I just wish that instead of Googling Intersex they'd Google Autogynephilia.

SEENMember2023 · 11/12/2023 12:43

Somebody asked the question on whether our belief that sex is immutable is for humans only or is a universal belief. Can't wait for the idiot to mention clown fish lol

I liked the "bi/pan woman" wailing about being called straight because she was in a relationship with a man. That's all the fault of "terfs" I guess.

Yeah it's hard to tell Straight from Bi-in-Straight-Relationship (unless they go all Vegan or Cold Water Swimmer and tell you immediately and frequently)

And really does my face care which kind of people that you're not currently boffing, that you'd consider boffing if the boffortunity arose? It doesn't care. Look at my face. Look at it, not caring about your hypothetical theoretical boff life.

did you see how I wrote this post without saying Spicy Straight. Dead proud of myself for that.

Waitwhat23 · 11/12/2023 14:07

boffortunity

😆
