FEMALES
WOMEN
GIRLS

Why are those words so bloody (pun intended) hard to say?

So no, I won't be donating.

Yep, another one with a nice pair of earrings in my basket that I will no longer be buying. They can fuck right off with their dehumanisation of women.

The irony of claiming they want to build a world for women without being able to name women. Can they not see this regressive, erasing bullshit for what it is?

TheSandgroper · 29/11/2023 00:00

Gastroenterologists, proctologists, colo-rectal surgeons, come and join the party here. Everyone is welcome when bleeding and otherwise shedding organ linings.

It's not the point but toilet roll isn't free either and that's for a natural process.

Well exactly and I don't get the handwringing. Can't really beat 75p. When I was a teen in early 2000s they were £3 a pack at least.
Other than that Oliver Bonas can fuck off.

Goodbye Oliver Bonas. If you can’t call me a woman I won’t be buying your products with my money.

EtiennePalmiere · 29/11/2023 03:36

I've never shopped there and now I definitely never will ! This kind of thing doesn't even seem to be their target audience, aren't they quite Sloaney

Free period products seems to be the thing that libfemmery latches onto in an effort to avoid looking squarely at the things that would really make a difference to women.

ChaToilLeam · 29/11/2023 08:21

Oh dear, my niece likes their stuff but I’ll be getting her Christmas gift elsewhere.

User1343 · 29/11/2023 08:26

I presume they’re being sensitive towards the growing number of non-binary people or trans boys/men out there? People of biological female sex who no longer identify as girls/women - and are now non-binary or trans boys/men.

Well exactly. How about campaigning for equal pay, supporting women who are victims of domestic violence, et etc

Free packs of pads that you can get for 75p that most women could afford makes zero difference.

LondonLass91 · 29/11/2023 08:35

Every year i buy my family members an Oliver Bonus giftcard. Never again. You know, when will these idiots realise that transmen really will not be offended by the word woman, however they may personally identify. Who are these offended people?!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/11/2023 08:38

Non-binary woman:^ A non-binary woman could refer to any of the following: a non-binary person who was assigned female at birth and shared a socialisation process typical to others identifying as women; somebody who is perceived socially as a woman but does not feel they align wholly with a female identity; somebody who feels partially female-aligned but partially something else; somebody who exists beyond the gender binary but feels closer to “woman” than they do to “man”.^

Hilarious.

LondonLass91 · 29/11/2023 08:39

Well this is the sort of company Oliver Bonas are 'thrilled' to be teaming up with.

"People who bleed from their vaginas". What a clever man he is....

So fuck of, Oliver Bonus. You don't get to be inclusive by erasing the word woman.

We don't fucking bleed either - it's the physical process of shedding the lining of the uterus.

This stripping back of language is utter shite. Even the NHS say its a monthly bleed - IT'S NOT A BLEED. If we only bled, we could put a fucking plaster on it, use targeted physical pressure to prevent the leakage of blood from the body, and frankly with the severity of my periods, I'd be dead in no time with the volume of blood loss it compares with.

We don't prescribe the combined Pill or the coil for a cut to the arm or leg.

Without a womb, we don't have periods.

And only the female sex have wombs.

For fucks sake.

I have endometriosis and my periods are extremely painful and heavy. If the vast amount of red on my pad isn't blood then what is it?

However, I think the wording of this campaign is stupid. Of course everyone bleeds but men don't need pads or tampons because they don't have periods.

Well, that's the generous interpretation. In reality, those people know they are women and the rest of us shouldn't have to tolerate that kind of language. Of couse, what is far more likely is that this is being done for transwomen, who are all over every single attempt to decouple the idea of female biology from being a woman. Whatever the cause, I'll reiterate: women are NOT obliged to be referred to in these grotesque and dehumanising terms.

Flamango · 29/11/2023 09:12

But everyone bleeds.
Its literally a famous saying.

Forward it on to sexmatters, they collect examples of this sort of thing

But everyone bleeds.
Its literally a famous saying.

Only women pass blood, and fluid consisting of cervical mucus, vaginal secretions, and endometrial tissue through their vagina.

Flamango · 29/11/2023 09:24

@Goodornot but it says quite clearly at the top “fighting….for the rights of all people who bleed”.
Which is everyone.
So fighting for everyone’s rights.
Nice I guess but campaigns are usually a little more targeted.

falanka · 29/11/2023 09:25

Oh :(

I really liked Oliver Bonas. I did buy things from there a lot. The trousers are a good cut for me and I always liked picking up a little colourful thing in the train station coming home from working away. I'm sorry they have gone this way. What is so unspeakable about women.

LulooLemon · 29/11/2023 09:38

It's erasure of females in plain sight.

We need to complain loudly about this kind of thing, every time.

NitroNine · 29/11/2023 12:02

As someone with a bleeding disorder I am delighted to be amongst this new elite Oliver Bonas (unexpected, but why not) is taking over the world for…
<elbows lurking Romanovs out of way to claim crown & waves regally>

No? Can I still have a crown? A tiara?

Also, “menstrual equity”? How exactly does a company own shares in people’s periods? 🫣

VirusSchmirus · 29/11/2023 20:51

Oddly, when talking about refugees and asylum seekers - they ARE women. But on another part of their website the "cis woman" label is used.

OP posts:
Oncetwicethreetimesalady · 29/11/2023 21:00

There seems to be a culture of embarrassment and shame around the natural biological word “woman”

Somanyquestionstoaskaboutthis · 29/11/2023 21:01

Has this been on Xtwitter? I hope so. I’m not on there to see.

Lottapianos · 29/11/2023 21:07

'What is so unspeakable about women.'.

I know. I'm absolutely fucking sick to death of this shit. I work for the NHS and saw posters in the toilets at work the other day about how '1 in 8 PEOPLE struggle to afford period products'. Absolute fucking nonsense

I couldn't be less interested in how you 'identify'. Having a period is one of the most female biological processes there is, so if you expel uterine lining and blood through your vagina, congratulations you're a woman / girl. And that's something to be proud of, not ashamed of
