Scottish Labour Women's Conference motion 5 passed - "Women’s voices as a sex class must be heard"

The gender wars in Labour are heating up. Great motion passed by Scottish Labour Women yesterday. Congrats to Labour Women's Declaration in Scotland for their powerful advocacy on this.

Scottish Labour Women's Conference delegates voted that:
"When Holyrood & its committees discuss regulation & legislation that impacts on women, women’s voices as a sex class must be heard openly, with respect
& without intimidation"

See full text below.

Contrast this to the sneaky pushing of self id in women's conference by the back door in Welsh Labour.

The gender wars are only going to get bigger in Labour and in the UK in 2024 with the General Election. The moves against Rosie Duffield, and the push for Starmer middle ground "gender" ideas are part of this. Everyone needs to get more active now inside or outside Labour before the election.

In Scotland the general election will have a big gender component inevitably because of the reaction against the SNP's approach. Scottish Labour women know this. There is no middle ground no matter how much Starmer wants to pretend there is.

How very depressing though that they actually have to debate or vote at a conference that women’s voices should be heard. Of course they should be heard ffs! Why the hell do labour need a conference motion to establish that? They should hang their heads in shame that the party is so riven with misogyny that this motion is even necessary.

Given that the Green Party has just disaffiliated the Green Party Women group, it is clearly sadly necessary to state that women have rights and deserve consideration.

MsPavlichenko · 26/11/2023 10:42

They needed it passed as the Labour Party, Labour and trade union movement have been completely captured by identity politics, and gender ideology in particular. As has happened elsewhere, for example the voluntary sector, large areas of the public sector including the civil service. This has happened over years, not months.

This motion being passed is very good news. It allows for further discussion within the Labour Party and elsewhere and is another sign of no debate being over.

Thank you for flagging this OP!

Terrifying that it needs to be said. Was it voted unanimously or did the misogynists in Labour put up a fight?

Good question. I am not sure.

Lab Women's Declaration were very well organised though they also held a meeting on Friday

If you are a member of a union affiliated to Labour, contact Labour Women's Declaration. You are not alone, but GC women active in the unions are often working in fear and isolation. Even if you just pay a sub and aren't actively involved. Women must network to face down the threat gender ideology poses to women's rights.

Through the strength of our common endeavour...etc

RapidOnsetGenderCritic · 26/11/2023 13:45

That’s excellent.

Well this is something postive. Well done to all the women who have obviously campaigned so effectively. And well done Scottish Labour for show flip flop Starmer's Labour how far behind he is lagging in terms of women's rights.

The best they can come up with is they aren't backing self id. Still too frightened to stand up for women.

And I hope this improves their chances against the SNP come the General Election. Although the down side of that is more Labour MPs in the HoC.
