Has anyone come across this group before? It's a monthly support group for 10 to 12-year-old girls to talk about fears and concerns about puberty and growing up etc. Sounds ideal for helping girls to be comfortable with their changing bodies, and the website is refreshingly rainbow-free, but just wondered if anyone had any experience with it?

No, have not.
But your username is fab so I am bumping for you!

Just to warn you that ridiculous as this may sound, some tras are weirdly obsessed with periods and lurk on these sites. So ppl might be wary about posting.....

There used to be one with a butterfly theme. Can’t remember what it was called, but haven’t heard of it recently.

Interesting group

Have read the website, looks like a great idea, if you have one close enough. If you attend the taster that would give you an idea if it's right for your family and circumstances or not. I would be curious to know more about its origins and how the facilitators are trained and how it works in real life.

I used to be in a FB group of mums that supported a similar type of group for their teen daughters like this. There was a focus on normalising menstruation, reducing shame and a bit hippyish too. It was really nice. Until they started talking about allowing trans girls into the girls' groups because they were so accepting etc. when I pointed out trans girls by definition didn't need a group supporting them with menstruation all hell rained down on me.

So I'd double check if this group is sex-based. If it's not, just stay away because it's not worth the mess when they let in boys who feel feminine. Or non-binary ones.

My daughter went to a GJT group a few years ago when in Y6 and it was fantastic. She went from dreading puberty and periods to looking forward to them. It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed the mums sessions too.

I don't know their rules re trans identifying (although it'd be ridiculous for someone going through male puberty or no puberty to attend).

I'd highly recommend it if your daughter is up for it. I had to literally drag mine to the taster event but then she was keen.

This is what is causing me to be wary...

Yes, Ive heard of it and planning to sign up for the mum and daughter one as well in the nee yesr.

It was recommended by the headteacher and the ELSA lead as they both thought would benefit me and daughter.

I believe the founder is Kim McCabe who has also written a book.

Villagetoraiseachild · 26/11/2023 23:15

Understood. Maybe ask if it's for biological girls only as you have concerns.

StellaGibson2022 · 26/11/2023 23:16

Sorry just to add am not aware of any trans members but Ive only got as far as finding a local group.
