'A group of academics at the University of Edinburgh hope a third bid to show a controversial documentary on women's rights and trans issues will go ahead on Wednesday.
The film Adult Human Female is due to be shown at a venue in George Square.
Two previous attempts to show it have been cancelled after pro-trans activists protested at the events.'

Good luck to them. And if someone could maybe help the trans activists with their spelling, that would be good. Are these really University students?

I read this article this morning; this quote from EUSA made me laugh (my bold:
"We recognise the value of academic discourse in university spaces, however, this film contains many inaccuracies regarding trans people, which has a demonstrable harmful impact on an already marginalised and vulnerable group, without any grounding in reality."

Shame they haven't been able to list any of the many inaccuracies!

Probably written by someone who hasn't seen it. 🙄

JL690 · 22/11/2023 12:59

Good luck to them and everyone who is going to see it.

BadBadDecisions · 22/11/2023 13:00

A group without any grounding in reality sounds about right tbh

Villagetoraiseachild · 22/11/2023 19:48

To give him the tiniest benefit of the doubt, perhaps the young man pictured is urging the Black Trans Woman to Stop Killing.

Villagetoraiseachild · 22/11/2023 19:48

Joking.....

ArthurbellaScott · 22/11/2023 19:58

Well, that would actually make more grammatical sense.

The student statement objected to:

"We do not support the spread of misinformation, nor do we believe any of our students or staff should have their identities scrutinised, or be positioned as a risk to others, simply by existing."

So apparently, no one is allowed to talk about this subject unless you already agree with the extreme trans ideology?

Seems teh screening is at last going ahead:

Excellent that the film is finally shown. Well done!!

But, how come no one can scrutinise ‘staff or students’ identities’?
What do they do when border controls Ask for their passports?

’Nay good They/Them, you may not scrutinise me! I am who I say I am’.

(I am the Queen of Sheba, by the way. For travel upgrade purposes. I am also four thousand years old and the parent of all wisdom. You may Bow before me 🔥☄️💥. I reckon the Queen of Sheba may drive her sheep, goats AND cattle over London Bridge, so ner.)

But it is not "simply by existing". It is their actions in invading women's spaces that are the risk.

ArthurbellaScott · 22/11/2023 21:25

Aye. This is framed as 'simply by existing in womens spaces'.

Which yes has impact on women.

OP posts:
Precipice · 22/11/2023 21:41

But they themselves position women, whose identities are that they are women by reason of being of the female sex and who reject the identity of 'cis women', as a risk to others simply by existing (and disagreeing with them, how dare).

JanesLittleGirl · 22/11/2023 21:50

What completely pisses me off in this pile of shit is that the wankers who try to prevent a few women from coming together to watch a film because it 'denies their existence' are really trying to deny my fucking existence.

fromorbit · 23/11/2023 06:55

Victory even the BBC had to admit the win. Though I love the way they very kindly provided a YouTube link to the movie in their article. The Mens rights bigots who stopped the film showing twice have failed and helped give the film publicity.

Protesters have failed to stop a controversial film on women's rights and trans issues from being shown at the University of Edinburgh.
Two previous screenings of Adult Human Female were cancelled after pro-trans activists blocked the venue.
The film went ahead on Wednesday despite a protest involving more than 100 people.
They say the film is transphobic, a claim denied by the academics behind the screening.
The documentary was directed by academics and film-makers Deirdre O'Neill and Michael Wayne and has been available to view on since December 2022.
The film-makers describe it as "the UK's first feature-length documentary about the clash between women's rights and gender ideology/trans rights".
It defines sex as being determined by biology and says women's rights have been damaged by aspects of the trans movement.
An attempt to show the film last December at the University of Edinburgh was halted amid safety concerns after protesters formed a blockade around the venue. Police were called but no arrests were made.
A second attempt to show it was again cancelled in similar circumstances in April.

“Gender queer people need safety too” - and the obvious way to achieve that is to threaten violence against women who want to watch a film 🤷‍♀️

Beowulfa · 23/11/2023 08:09

Balaclavas with comedy ears. Like a Brass Eye sketch about the IRA.

UnremarkableBeasts · 23/11/2023 08:21

It’s really depressing that this is a movement where a white male holding up a sign about ‘black trans women’ is seen as acceptable.

Why is it seen as OK for TRAs to appropriate race and colonialism and anything else they like in this paternalistic fashion?

Don’t worry black people, here is a white male who attends Edinburgh uni (which statistically makes him more likely than not to have come from a privileged background) to protest on your behalf. He’s got a sign; see how brave he is in using you to make his point!

Datun · 23/11/2023 08:32

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/11/2023 11:56

This would be comical, if, in some cases, they weren't using this kind of rhetoric to justify attacks on women.

If they are so nuts that they think their enemy is "killing trans people" that then justifies punching women in the minds of some of them.

It does. This is a brilliant article.

unherd.com/2023/10/the-tyranny-of-pathological-kindness/

Wow. That is exceptional. And scary.

Froodwithatowel · 23/11/2023 08:48

Once you are dealing with someone who has declared that their alternative reality is the only reality, it is created by their feelings which are more real than actual facts, and anyone denying that they are perfectly right is 'killing them'....

it baffles me why people would expect them to make sense or grasp reality on any other matter.

It's a bit 'but apart from that Mrs Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?'

They need safety from hurty words and wrongthink.

I hope they weren't up all night making those signs.

Those who fancy gardening may be interested to know that creators of the film are taking the UCU to tribunal for unlawfully discriminating against the film:
In Defence of Academic Freedom by Adult Human Female

We are academics and the directors of the documentary feature Adult Human Female, the first UK film to explore the clash between women's rights and trans activists promoting gender identity claims.
Scheduled screenings of our film have twice been cancelled by protestors at the University of Edinburgh. On both occasions the Edinburgh branch of the Universities and College Union (UCU) denounced the film as 'hate speech' and 'transphobic'. We are members of UCU and yet the union has treated us and the film as beyond the pale and unworthy of a place on campus.
We are raising funds to bring an employment tribunal claim against UCU for unlawfully discriminating against us because of our protected 'gender critical' beliefs. UCU champions those who believe that men who identify into the opposite sex should be treated in policy and law as women. We believe that this view is harmful to women's sex-based rights. UCU not only disagrees with our position but opposes our right to screen the film and discuss the issues.
UCU is the main academic union in the university sector. It needs to conduct itself in a way that protects academic freedom for all members engaged in reasoned debate. We are taking this action because we hope that it will encourage UCU to alter course. UCU should protect the employment and civil liberties rights of all members, not just those of trans rights activists.
Gender critical beliefs are protected in law. It is unlawful for a union to discriminate against its members by harassing them or subjecting them to any form of 'detriment'. UCU has lost many members over this issue.

Check crowdjustice.com for details. UCU are pretty likely to lose especially as they recently started demanding freedom of speech over Israel/Palestine while endorsing closing down this film.

“Gender queer people need safety too”

From what?

Having to ever encounter anyone or anything that does not enable their choices as the only priority?

The answer is not 'aww bless', it's fgs grow up and get over yourself.
