That would be wonderful. People hold them up as an example of how great legalisation is but it's a cesspit.

Oh I do hope so. The reports coming from there since the previous law change are horrendous. I would have thought it would be hard to reverse, but where there's a will (and it seems there is, now) then hopefully there's a way!

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/11/2023 20:53

It will be hard to back-pedal, not least because there is a lot of money, much of it illegal money, wrapped up in it.

IcakethereforeIam · 21/11/2023 20:53

I hope so but I'm not holding my breath.

Yes, the practical hurdles seem significant. It might be something you'd have to phase in, in order to allow investors to withdraw. Or offer buy-outs. You'd want to avoid it just going underground. Some of that will be inevitable but minimizing it should be the goal.

Perhaps a first step might be not allowing anyone who isn't a citizen to immigrate in to work in that sector. But I am speculating, you would really want someone with a good understanding of the whole thing to be very careful in crafting a plan.

And making sure that there is a plan to employ the 80% (IIRC) workers who aren't German, many of whom are young, don't speak German etc. WTF are they going to do? There will need to be workers just to look at options for them. Or fund a women's charity really well to do it for the government.

Otherwise it will just mean they turn to the illegal trade.
