It is interesting. I can only offer the insight that after studying comp sci and having a 25 year career in it, I have only ever known one male of my network to transition and he was an absolute 100% creep the girls knew not to go near at uni. I heard he had 'decided to live as a woman' some years after i left in about 2007. Before trans was a word used for the practice I believe as it was spoken about very differently among friends, kind of a baffled oh, that makes sense.
As for the seemingly common occurrence of this I can only speculate, there are types among the nerd community. Such as,
-highly sexed ones prone to becoming incels
-massive egos with God complex
-emos who are so misunderstood
-manipulative psychopath/evil genius
-the nihlist branch
-the drug user clique
-closet gay and can't come out due to unsupportive community
Sometimes special ones that are most of the above.
Need for attention and feeling they are unique and different are common traits. Extraversion results in bad behaviour in the open, introverts just do dodgy dealings online and in the head or vicariously through others.
Perhaps it is the same as with non geek male communities and so what is the difference? I'd say possibly access to females - whether just normal daily interaction with female people or as girlfriends, family. Now I think about it, hardly any of my geek friends ar that time had female siblings. Hmm.
I've gone on a bit of a tangent here, reminiscing about the men in my life. There are some good ones.
