A fascinating life history!

Nesmith, as a single mother, invented liquid paper. She made a fortune, which her second husband managed to wrest from her.

She fought to get it back, won, and set up trusts to collect art by women, and help survivors of dv and unmarried mothers.

An interesting read over breakfast! I never knew the history of liquid paper! And her second husband was a bit of a shit!

ArthurbellaScott · 19/11/2023 08:13

He was indeed, but I'm glad she won in the end.

She was one-off the monkees mother wasn't she? Mike?

ArthurbellaScott · 19/11/2023 08:18

I had known about her as I was a huge Monkees fan in the 60s - I used to sob my adolescent heart out at the end of their weekly TV show and spent a fair bit of time looking down my road, hoping to see the Monkee Mobile approaching.

But she died young - 56 or so. I'm wondering why. Was it the strain of all that power wrestling with her ex? I'll see what I can find.

The list of alternative uses for the product is interesting too. I'd never have thought of most of them.

I love stories like this, so interesting and sends you down a bit of a rabbit hole moving on to other related info.

I've also recently been reading about K-pop stars, that's an eye opener as well and worth a google - very relevant to feminists because the young women are relentlessly shaped mentally and physically (through surgeries if deemed necessary) into the starlets of the future. They're even assigned personalities.

Did they miss out, "getting around the blue lights to discourage intravenous drug use"? Because that's the weirdest use. Although possibly the most ingenious.

How do they do that, MrsTerry?!

They've changed the formula now, but in the late 80s I did inadvertently get high at work from Tippex overuse once!

ArthurbellaScott · 19/11/2023 18:26

'inadvertently'. Yes, of course.

You can't see veins under the blue lights (that's hat they're for, to stop drug use) because the vein doesn't show up. Dab a little spot of liquid paper on the place you'd inject, and it glows under the lights.
