A pool player has forfeited her chance to win a top national title in protest at the sport allowing a transgender woman to compete against natal females.

Lynne Pinches packed up her cue and walked off as the final of the Ladies Champions of Champions got under way over the weekend.

Spectators clapped and cheered Pinches’ protest while her opponent, Harriet Haynes, appeared bemused before later picking up the trophy by default.
Pinches had been among a host of top female players to speak out in recent days over transgender women being allowed to compete against them in elite competitions.

FFS.

All that is utterly irrelevant.

There are good reasons for female only pool (and snooker) - as mentioned before, even the top female players who do all of the above struggle to make a dent in the 'hypothetically' mixed sex major matches.

This shows there is male advantage that goes beyond practice and determination.

I'm getting soooo sick of all this. Seriously I'm done with it.

Maybe Haynes has been advantaged by those things Circles lists but they'll be just as helpful if he plays as a man.

Indeed, perhaps if HE tried a bit harder he could compete against other men.

Another day another way to say 'women just need to try harder'.

It is easy to say that Harriet Haynes’ success is down to her being transgender. It is more difficult to accept that Harriet Haynes’ success is actually down to her having a table installed in her house, playing constantly throughout COVID, playing every night and over 20 hours a week, playing competitive snooker, travelling the country to play against better people, having professional coaching and just dedicating herself to her hobby that she loves to play.
This is not a point about gender, it is a point about devotion to one’s craft.

If we could just find our balls and practice more, try harder then maybe women could be as good as the men who cheat!

HH was stealing women's prizes back in 2018! Must have been benefiting from that covid practice in advance of Covid!

I wonder if Lynne makes it onto HH's list of most respected opponents?

But still not good enough to beat other men eh Harriet?

How fortunate that there is a Womens competition for you to triumph at and massage that old tosser’s ego. “Yay! I’m a winner!”

Another courageous woman losing out because of the utter narcissism of a man. Good for her for standing up for her principles and I’m glad that the audience showed their approval.

Hear hear.

Are we really supposed to believe that he can't play on the men's team because it would trigger his dysphoria? I bet he plays against other blokes every day of the week.

It's almost like he has just found an easy way to cheat.

But surely all sorts of sports trigger all kinds of illnesses, mental or otherwise? If you have PTSD a loud sport might not work for you. People have things like arthritis, fibromyalgia, heart conditions etc that might be triggered by intense physical activity and that might exclude them from competitive sport. And what about the woman who took up kickboxing after a traumatic attack, might SHE be triggered by being asked to spa or compete with a man?

I have just remembered a story from my younger days, when I used to work in a pub that had a pool table. My and my pal were playing pool - badly - and a group of guys who weren't locals came in, they started really hassling us because they wanted the pool table. One of them even said that he didn't think women should be allowed to play pool.

It got so tense that later on, they kicked off a massive fight, with all the local lads versus them. Police were called!! All because me and my pal - we were only about 19 at the time - were on the pool table.

Maybe that goes a small way to explain why women don't take up pool.....??

BezMills · 17/11/2023 10:43

Triggers his dysphoria. Such a Get Out Of Jail Free Card for any mischief and bullshit

HiddenLegoOuch · 17/11/2023 10:59

I’m getting “the bike rider who toppled with a distinct lack of grace when the poor official couldn’t hold them up” vibes from HH’s photos…

Amazing 😂It's true I enjoy pool and might have become ok at it except there's always some guy putting his arms around you from behind to show you to do it

@EtiennePalmiere 'Amazing 😂It's true I enjoy pool and might have become ok at it except there's always some guy putting his arms around you from behind to show you to do it'

Sometimes, depending on the guy, I used to pretend to be even worse than I was so he would do that. Maybe another reason..... 😂

How good was Harriet before transitioning?

Was Harriet a Champion of Champions before transitioning?

If not, does this prove transitioning has improved performance?

Is this why the women pool players feel the need to protest?

Why is this information not available?

I suspect that he was mediocre before transitioning as that seems to be what triggers them.
As least this way they can pretend to be better than they are.

This information is abundantly available, on this very thread and others on this site. One of the other threads has an assessment of his record playing in the male category.

I'm interested to read the other thread but can't find it, please could you post a link to it? Thank you!

Me too. I noted someone on this thread quoted social media that Harriet was an average b-level player before transitioning but I can't find any official results.

Yes, there needs to be so much more of that happening, not only in sport, but in other walks of life too.

Dillane · 20/11/2023 10:57

Good for her.

’Natal female’, you mean ‘Woman’.

BezMills · 21/11/2023 08:25

I'm sure she would play against a male with cross-sex gender identity in a mixed sex tournament. Maybe they could even team up and enter mixed sex doubles? Possibly she'd want to team up with a top level male though, since she is the best female in the land...

but that would be her choice. Knowing that she would be playing against and with males.

These cheating men have no shame.

duc748 · 21/11/2023 11:31

It's funny you say that. The pool I watch on Mondays is screened live. I'm sure they said last week that there was going to be a mixed doubles comp 'next week', but last night: no programme. It may be because they're screening the live euro football qualifiers.

Anyway, it's listed on their website for the 20th November, so whether it took place or not, I don't know, but for whatever reason, it wasn't televised.
