"escaping Twin Flames" forced gender transitions

Has anybody watched this 3-part docuseries on Netflix? It's a fascinating story of spiritualism turned MLM turned cult. Vulnerable devotees were encouraged to transition in order to secure their "twin flame". A pragmatic solution to the cult's high female bias! Fascinating to hear from a survivor about how she was briefly convinced to socially transition, others fulling transitioned medically and surgically.

I think the wife was an early victim of him.

She’s played her part in abusing others, but as the cult expert points out there’s lots of layers of abuse- he’s ultimately controlling everyone abusing each other. It’s all about him.

It’s worrying they ended up with a child.

The whole thing about the child was so sinister. The idea that a child could be brought into such a toxic relationship with a man as dangerous as this is terrifying.

Goodbyeimgoinghome · 19/11/2023 04:33

I thought the gender professor was a transman. Did I have that wrong?

Goodbyeimgoinghome · 19/11/2023 04:38

Oh sorry, I see now others have already said that.

MrsJamin · 20/11/2023 09:41

SO many things that were just 😮😱- the fact that they felt they needed that gender professor on made it clear that they were worried on how it looked that people could be persuaded they were trans. I hope this documentary makes many people realise that vulnerable, lonely, desperate people can transition in the hope that will make them happy.
Really concerned for the baby - how social services have not removed that baby yet is terrifying. It basically made out like they were going to sexually mutilate that baby?

WarriorN · 20/11/2023 14:57

Fucking hell.

And Ive not watched the last episode yet.

Crouton19 · 20/11/2023 15:07

The bit about the pregnancy, having read JKR's latest, was a bit 😯

MrsJamin · 20/11/2023 15:29

JKR's latest?

Did it, I missed that and hope that you're wrong (not saying you are though!)- I thought they said the baby would be "above sex" so I was imagining that they were going to raise the child to be asexual... not that it's possible obv. but it sounds like the controlling megalomaniac that is Jeff is going to prevent his child from having any relationship?! I hope that baby Grace is OK 😨

Signalbox · 20/11/2023 16:16

Is this in the US? Stuff like this makes me wonder if Labour do bring in the "Conversion Therapy" ban it will completely backfire and the convictions will end up being related to those young people who feel like they were coerced into transition. I don't quite understand how this hasn't occurred to them.

MrsJamin · 20/11/2023 16:24

Jeff said that his forthcoming baby Grace can only have sex with herself or God. Other than that she should be celibate. However he claimed he was Jesus... Aka God?! So so disturbing.

Ah yeah I didn't draw that parallel. I hope he wasn't drawing those parallels either 🤢🤢🤢🤢

Pashazade · 20/11/2023 19:44

Finished watching last night and I drew that parallel I'm afraid. Very concerning that they're trying to effectively establish a commune. I do hope the sisters are able to be friends again it's quite heartbreaking.

Strawfan · 21/11/2023 12:34

I am glad they included the trans professor, even though they did their 'no true trans' bit. Without them I'm sure the narrative would become that those people were authentic trans and that transmen are just more likely seek soulmates in MLM cults due to all the bigots on dating apps, and it's all just a massive coincidence, nobody can be coerced etc. etc.

Crikey there's another, different, three part documentary about them on Amazon prime. Equally as concerning if a bit more click baity

The podcast about this lot is also fascinating, it's called Twin Flames. But I wonder how they've never been prosecuted for anything very dangerous people.
There's another documentary about them on Prime called Desperately Seeking Soulmate and the journalist actually got to visit their home and talk to them directly.

Missed this, it seems to fill in some gaps.

AIstolemylunch · 21/11/2023 15:11

Have watched both the Netflix and the Amazon series on this lot. Horrifyingly fascinating. They ae clearly both massive grifters but also do seem to believe some of the new age nonsense too. Horrific combination.

Also, as others have pointed out, both series managed to tack on a gender expert to show that they weren't 'real trans' and seemed absolutely oblivious to the 'this cult is bad but our cult is fine' nuclear garde hypocrisy of what they were saying. I think a whole generation (millenials) are lost to us ...

MrsOvertonsWindow · 21/11/2023 15:36

So many of those women were so sad. I'm a bit haunted by the woman who (on the advice of Twin Flames) breached a restraining order for stalking and was sent to jail. She lost everything including her job and ended up back living with her parents.
So many lost souls...

MrsJamin · 21/11/2023 16:01

I think the Prime series made the stalking thing a lot more obvious - members being actively encouraged to be predatory and not giving up too easily. I have found the podcast but I'm not sure how much more I want to know about these batshit people knowing that they are just more underground now but still most likely to be doing the same thing.

RebelliousCow · 21/11/2023 16:09

The cult leader always turns out to be sleeping with the women of the cult; or taking them as wives; sometimes this includes children.

That Jeff is a raging narcissist who becomes ever more abusive the more he is fed. You can see how inflated he is becoming; forever pushing the boundaries, and becoming bloated with the darkness of his own shadow. Goodness knows how, and when, this thing is going to end.

ApocalipstickNow · 21/11/2023 17:29

Yes, that’s almost always the pattern.

This cult is still fairly new, a lot has been over zoom and at some point this will get more closed off, members will be very isolated and there will be children born into the cult and that is very very concerning.

Ilikegreenshoes · 22/11/2023 23:44

Thanks so much for this thread, we just finished watching the show last night and I'm glad to see others share my thoughts about the trans aspect to the show.

I feel so gutted for those mums whose children have cut contact, especially the two who felt compelled to refer to their daughters as "he".

I also couldn't believe how narcissistic that trans professor was. I mean, she said that her biggest concern was how this would reflect on the "real" trans community. I would have thought maybe the biggest concern would be for those poor lost souls in that cult and their grieving families, but no. Just "how will this affect how people see me?" Disgusting really.

One thing did make us laugh (albeit in disbelief) and that was how, the minute the woman said she'd had a dream that Jeff was Jesus, he accepted it without question, and then said, "well, look at the paintings of Jesus, compared with my face, it's the same person." Like, not a moment's hesitation, just immediately "yep, you're right, I am definitely Jesus." Delusional!

What’s the Prime series called? I’ve got a free month of Prime and looking for something to watch.
