R4 “Breast Medicine” features Jordan Gray (MtF) discussing “boob job”

I am really shocked. A round table discussion including a woman who has had breast cancer and two medics/scientists discussing updates in treatment also includes a transwoman discussing the joys of “top surgery” to create breasts. The transwoman happily mentioned “for full disclosure”, in what sounds like a masculine voice, only having top surgery as that is what the world sees — but no intention to remove anything “down below”. The female guests in the show and the members of the audience all seemed to support this statement.
i am astounded. Why can’t a discussions about breast cancer just include women who have had breast cancer, or men who have had it, rather than include someone who used medical resources to create “boobs”.

Jordan’s audience is going to become smaller and more inward looking the more Jordan exposes himself.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/10/2023 21:42

Perhaps they could have Beavis and Butthead present the next one?

Erraticclothespeg · 24/10/2023 21:42

I don't want to give the programme clicks. Breast cancer is sh't. Not funny. Breast reconstruction isn't funny either. It is a horrible consolation for women who have parts of their body hacked off attempting to slow the progress of a lethal disease.

I am glad I am not alone in being shocked by the programme. I thought I had misheard at first and went on-line to check the subject of the programme and the panelists. The premise itself is odd: “Kiri Pritchard-McLean assembles a panel of scientific experts and a fellow comedian and challenges them to make a case for what they think is “the best medicine”. Why is a comedian even necessary as host or guest when the programme is addressing a serious topic?

i was even more disconcerted when I realised the panelist’s and audience didn’t seem to be at all nonplused about Jordan’s comments — as if it all is normalised now. (“It” being men with breasts AND penises; “women” with penises; “women” who sound and, judging by the photo in the link below, look like men can be on a panel of “women” discussing breast health….)

It sounds like they're trying to do a sort of instructional comedy programme. It sounds very like the set up of You're Dead to Me or The Infinite Monkey Cage (both of which I'd say are pretty good programmes). It may be that the topic means that's a bad idea, or it might work if they'd had a different panel.

It just feels like everything about women and girls is a misogynistic free for all. We are the punchline of the biggest fucking joke in history.

This x 1000

I'm going to complain, it is so disrespectful
can anyone direct me to the lyrics of his song where he says something about being a better woman than any of us could be?

I look out at the faces in this room and wish that I could crawl back in the womb. And start again against God’s plans with different glands and smaller hands.
I wish the world could finally understand I’m more than just a female Russell Brand.

No wonder why I feel so incomplete. I stand alone on massive fucking feet. And as I gaze out at the pity in your eyes, I guess it’s time I finally realise… That I’m just… better than you.

And in a way I always knew. I’m such a f*king genius You don’t have a f*king clue, ‘Cause I’m BETTER than YOU…. But don’t let that upset you dear. At least you get to watch me play. You’re lucky that I’m even here.

‘Cause I can sing like a muthaf*ker, play like a muthafker, dance like a muthafker, act like a muthafker. Fact. I’m a better lover than any other. If you came here with your mother, I’ll fk her just like a muthaf*ker.

I suck just like a Chuckle Brother. To you to me to you now back to me. This song’s about me. Doe a deer a female deer, ray a drop of golden sun. Me, a name I call myself. Me, a name I call myself. Me, me me me, me me me.

I’m an arousing little mystery in your husband’s Google history. Go on. Check the results. I’m a perfect woman- my tits will never shrink. And I’m guaranteed to squirt and I do anal by default

I am the Lizard King. I can do anything. That any other woman can. But then what do you expect? I used to be a man. Sexism! I’m better than you. Yes. I’m better than you.

Just a Russell Brand copycat act, not a female one.

AnneWhittle · 24/10/2023 22:00

thank you

I will use that when I write to them

Unfortunate choice of hero, tbh.

Like being a professional Rolf Harris lookalike.

Yes that's exactly what it is. I've listened to a couple of previous episodes and they had a good mix of guests and some very interesting content (although of course the Monkey Cage style won't appeal to everyone).

I'm torn about listening to this one. I've seen Dr Fitzharris in a few things and she's good at this type of balancing of grusome/traumatic with light relief (and she's had breast cancer herself, so will be speaking as both patient and professional). So I really want to hear her bit. But not the penis pianist.

RealityFan · 24/10/2023 22:35

Surprised they missed a trick by not having Miko Minio on the panel to try out the most popular breast pumps.

viques · 24/10/2023 22:50

I am looking forward to the prostate cancer episode when they find a trans man who has a penis made from their forearm which entitles them to discuss their non existent prostate.

Dumbocracy · 25/10/2023 11:44

The transwoman happily mentioned “for full disclosure”, in what sounds like a masculine voice, only having top surgery as that is what the world sees — but no intention to remove anything “down below”.

Yes, because it all would be pointless if he couldn't enjoy the reason for his fake breasts.

I also thought it was interesting at the end that KPM asked Dave from the audience what he thought the best medicine was - not the female contributor who had had breast cancer. Nothing against Dave at all, it was as important to have him on the programme as any of them, apart from Jordan, but it's noteworthy that a man got more or less the last word on a BBC programme about breasts.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 25/10/2023 11:57

How unfortunate that on the 1 episode about breasts they seem to have ended up without any women in the audience (I assume they would have asked a woman if one had been available).

CorruptedCauldron · 25/10/2023 12:35

There seems to be an insatiable desire to centre men in women’s healthcare. A form of appeasement to the default humans for daring to talk about issues that primarily affect women.

EtiennePalmiere · 25/10/2023 22:41

I already had zero respect for the BBC.

StephanieSuperpowers · 26/10/2023 16:20

A light-hearted discussion about breast cancer, fine. But why put a man on to discuss his fetish props? His reasons for getting his comedy boobs installed has nothing to do with breast cancer in any sense. You can do comedy without horrific trivialisation of women and women's health issues. Also, it's possible for a programme to be complete without trans people on it.
