Apparently the strike is about women and the pay gap but also talks about violence to women. I think that the bots have been in to add in non binary, which does not make sense in the context of what actual women face in the workplace and beyond.

Sonja Yr Porbergssdottir, chair of the Icelandic Federation for Public Workers, told The Independent: “Workers from all major industries are taking part: healthcare workers, teachers, service workers, finance workers, care workers, energy workers etc.

“We also expect women and non-binary people on parental leave, the elderly, disabled people and others outside of the labour market to participate.”

A nonsensical statement given the data on non binary people's pay would need disaggregating in a binary way in order to be useful.

However to be fair to Iceland, at least they're able to just about organise a women centred protest. I couldn't imagine this being remotely possible here. Any feminist organisations would face huge attack as always, and any "inclusive" organisation would have their work cut out making sure they centre special males without somehow alienating all the women in the process.

But presumably it’s the female ones that have lower pay etc…how can they possibly known about which the nbs are.

Non binary people present a real challenge for gender pay gap reporting. The trouble is there often simply aren't enough of them, certainly within one organisation, for a statistically meaningful number.

Currently in the UK they simply get excluded from the pay gap calculation. I can see this is the only sensible option, but I do find it troublesome that we can't see whether non binary people are at a disadvantage in the workplace.

I was interested to read it, because of the story of the original strike, but my enjoyment was curbed somewhat, because it conflates sex with gender, throughout the article. Also, the interpretation that Icelandic feminism it the most superior, because they've chosen to kow-tow the ( -LGB) TQI+++

The nonbinary person I know best earns a huge salary because they have well-off parents, went to public school and Oxbridge and is male. I really don't think their nonbinary identity is particularly influential on their pay rate, but fair enough to gather the data alongside sex. Possibly a useful piece of data would be what age they were nonbinary from.

I wonder if the non binary people who go on strike, will have anything in common?
