Feminism: Sex and gender discussions
Thelnebriati · 20/10/2023 19:25

The response to this is ridiculous. Sometimes sex matters, definitions have to be accurate otherwise they are pointless, and most women are infertile for part of their lives. I'm infertile right now! We're still women.

Hmm. This "support" for women... that'll be why Arkansas has the strictest anti-abortion laws in the USA. Yep, I can see how much they care about women.

And in other news, they are being challenged on voter rezoning laws that dilute black votes to gerrymander elections outcomes. Apparently black people vote wrong.

As Donald Trumps Press Secretary she said publicly that the women who claim he'd sexually harassed/ assaulted them are liars.

She supported Trumps retweeting of far right British posts about the "muslim threat".

She's a proven liar, racist, and right winger opposed to women's and black rights.

Be careful who you celebrate as allies.

I'm not a fan. I would prefer the approach to be an instruction not to use gender-neutral language where the result would be that the language is less clear than commonplace normally understood language would be.

Idiotic comments from 'Intransitive' (I wonder if they know what that means).

Women, like me, who can't get pregnant, just don't read the bits that don't concern us. We don't feel 'hurt' or 'ignored'. Not everything has to be about everybody.

Everyone with a uterus is female, whatever they may think, but not every female has a uterus.

"Ability to give birth" can easily be changed to, "biology that is aimed towards the ability to give birth, when healthy and normal development and stage of maturity".

That's probably what was meant.

It's possible to agree with someone on issue A, but not issue B.

No. Its superfluous. Law and policy makers should use plain, factual language. 'Maternity' doesn't refer to pre pubescent girls, or post menopausal women, or women who are not pregnant or cannot become pregnant or males. Just talk about biology if biology is the subject of the conversation, and don't invest facts with nefarious secret meanings. People who can't manage that have no place in making laws or serious decisions that affect the rest of us.

I see, so you think think that a racist, misogynist, homophobic governor / state are doing this with the best of intentions? How many "disagreements" do you need with people like that before you see that they are dangerous right wingers - or are you planning on donating to their monument to "murdered babies" being erected in the capitol? After all, if you set aside the fact that they want to deny black people the vote, force women to have children regardless of the risk to their health or wellbeing, or believe that women who accuse men of harassment and rape are liars, we are no doubt talking about a poor misunderstood individual who has many redeeming features.

Did I mention she is also repealing child labour laws??? Apparently putting children to work is a great way of fixing the fact that you have no intention of educating them.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders doesn't give a shit about human rights, never mind women's rights.

Not sure what your issue is.

"Ability to give birth" was apparently cited as their definition of woman. That is, it should be defined on a biological basis in the traditional way.

That doesn't require you to use any particular language, but looking through the list of what they want:

  • Rather than ‘pregnant people’ or ‘pregnant person,’ use ‘pregnant women’ or ‘pregnant mom.’
  • Rather than ‘chestfeeding,’ use ‘breastfeeding.’
  • Rather than ‘body fed’ or ‘person fed,’ use ‘breast fed.’
  • Rather than ‘human milk,’ use ‘breast milk.’
  • Rather than ‘birthing person,’ use ‘birth mom.’

That all seems sensible.
