Surrey, British Columbia, Canada.

This man Mukhtiar Panghali is being released from prison, after serving 15 years (if my maths are right) of his sentence. He strangled and killed his wife Manjit Panghali who was 4 months pregnant, and disposed of her and burnt her body. He robbed his wife, unborn baby, and their then toddler daughter from living the life they deserve.

This news article notes he has narcissistic and selfish traits, which "he's working to fix." Anyone whose dealt with a narcissist knows they are cunning manipulators and can easily put on an act to get their goals. His goal is freedom. So best behaviour, saying the right things, going through the motions, whatever is necessary to get parole. Maybe he is remorseful and has grown, but I highly doubt that. Either way, he should not be allowed back into society.

He murdered a woman and her unborn child, and their young daughter lost her mother and sibling. This murderer is getting full parole with conditions, but I believe he should serve life, and it should be for life. I can’t imagine how Manjit’s family must feel after hearing of his release. But the system is rotten to the core.

The parole board is maintaining several conditions on Mukhtiar Panghali, now 51, who has been on day parole for over a year

I don't know if Canada is worse than other Western countries, but I'm guessing this is pretty standard compared to Europe.

Are you making the argument that this is a gender issue? So domestic murder disproportionately impacts women, and soft sentencing is a form of bias?

Or maybe you aren't claiming bias, but just the general policies on violent crime are failing women, (and presumably men).

Why do you think he should spend his whole life in prison?

Do you think the evidence supports that such people can't be reformed and are always going to be a high threat of killing another partner? (Or alternatively, a domestic murderer is at high risk of committing a different type of murder.)

The evidence supports that tougher punishments will act as a deterrent and save women's lives?

Or do you think that he just deserves to pay for his crime?

This is a fantasy suggestion which would never happen, but in a marriage contract, maybe you could specify, "if one partner kills the other then such and such punishment will be used".
