'Women’s rights are human rights and human rights are non-negotiable. My absolute priority will be to embolden and empower women and girls in every part of the world'

From her speech:

'If you attack women's rights anywhere then you attack them everywhere'.

Previously:

'I think trans women are women and should be accommodated in a prison of their choosing'

But she still thinks men can be women for the asking, so what use is this?

It doesn't even mean anything it's just word soup. ChatGPT could come up with something more profound.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 10/10/2023 17:31

What has the treatment of ‘women and girls in every part of the world ‘ got to do with her ? Except as a broad généralisation of nice intentions seems like meaningless hyperbole TBH. I’m more interested in her intention to protect the rights of British women in British institutions like schools, hospitals , refuges and prisons, the places where she may be able to influence policy .

But they are all at it at the moment, because they’ve realised that a lot of voters are pretty uncomfortable at the erasure of women as a sex class. I don’t believe they have had a change of heart though. 🩲 🔥

duc748 · 10/10/2023 17:36

Exactly. She's not going to take on the Taliban, so why bring Afghanistan into it? "Go and give them a few warm words, Lisa".

Brokendaughter · 10/10/2023 17:37

It's always troubling when someone says a group of human beings have 'human rights'.

It's as if they think the group they are talking about are not regarded as human, so it needs pointing out.

I see Lisa Nandy doesn't really believe women are human after all.
If she thought they were, she wouldn't need to say that, because she'd know people already understood that.

hattie43 · 10/10/2023 17:53

Convenient

HelenaTranscart · 10/10/2023 18:05

Absolutely no substance to that speech. She's a traitor to her sex, and I don't trust a word that comes out her mouth. God help us all if she gets into a position of power!

PatatiPatatras · 10/10/2023 19:55

The problem with mangling language is that eventually no one has any idea what is meant and everyone interprets things however they like...

I have absolutely no idea what she means...

This is what I believe some Labour Party senior members are doing. Hence the very carefully ambiguous language.

Yep.

Humans are humans!
Rights are rights!
War is peace!
nonbinary people are non binary!

Basically, we're being trolled, in fact.

Pudmyboy · 10/10/2023 20:18

I will wait to hear her say women are adult human females before taking her seriously

AutumnCrow · 10/10/2023 20:20

I think this has to be the 'doorstep question' for Labour canvassers.

'About the Party's supposed recent shift on women - does it mean biological women or 'legal women'?'

'Blah blah blah Nandy and Dodds and Philips and Starmer'

'Yes but do they mean biological women or 'legal women'? Will you get back to me on that asap?'

FictionalCharacter · 10/10/2023 20:23

Cosmosforbreakfast · 10/10/2023 15:21

She hasn't confirmed that women are human biological females so she's probably including transwomen in that statement. Women's rights are for every woman especially the men cosplaying as women, more like.

Exactly. We know now what they mean when they say “women” and “women’s rights”. They are including transwomen.

LMAO. Pull the other one, it has bells on.

I'm generally not cynical about politicians, including the ones who've been poor on self-ID, but Nandy is utterly self-serving and doesn't give a fuck about women's rights.

Livinghappy · 10/10/2023 20:40

Absolutely nothing in her speech that changes her view that men who commit rape can choose which prison to go into.

It is so concerning that Labour could lose the election because they choose to ignore the rights and safety concerns of 50% of the population.

Froodwithatowel · 10/10/2023 20:59

Women's rights are good! Especially for male women!

I doubt she's up for emboldening and empowering women to say 'I can't share a space with that male person regardless of how they identify, and I need the accessibility of a female only space to be able to access this resource/service/equality because I'm not any less important than them and their identity.' And 'no, I'm not willing to be open minded about being raped in the name of male people expressing themselves without having to care about female people in the process'.

ResisterRex · 10/10/2023 21:01

JKR has asked her:

"You said rapists should be transferred to women's prisons if they self-identify as women.
You called Women's Place UK a hate group.
Given that you're one of the biggest reasons many women on the left no longer trust Labour to defend their rights, do you stand by those comments?"

Women’s rights mean nothing if you think men can be women

Westfacing · 10/10/2023 21:08

'I think trans women are women and should be accommodated in a prison of their choosing'

I was always bothered by the word 'choosing' in this statement - it seemed so casual. Since when did prisoners of either sex get choices in where they were imprisoned?

It was all nonsense and still is, as these late in the day Labour MPs are still a bit reticent as to what a woman is.

That's excellent. Lisa Nandy is well up in my hit parade of 'Reasons to Be an Ex Labour Voter'.

And those are good questions, as ever.

Westfacing · 10/10/2023 21:13

I was gleeful last week watching the Tory Party knocking lumps out of each other; this week have absolutely no enthusiasm in anything the Labour Party has to say - can't stand the sight of most of them.

They've been cowards.

This is what I will say to them on the doorstep.

As will I. Lisa Nandy is my MP.
