Andrew Boff ejected from Tory Party Conference after heckling Suella Braverman over gender ideology

A senior elected Tory was ejected from the Conservative conference for heckling Suella Braverman as she railed against the “poison” of “gender ideology”.

London Assembly member Andrew Boff told reporters the Home Secretary had been “vilifying” gay people in her speech as he was removed from the Manchester convention centre on Tuesday.

Before being approached by officials and police, Mr Boff had said from his conference seat: “There’s no such thing as gender ideology.”

Ms Braverman later said the heckles were “silly” but said the politician should be “forgiven and let back into conference”, though Mr Boff said he had been stripped of his pass.

“This Home Secretary was basically vilifying gay people and trans people by this attack on LGBT ideology, or gender ideology. It is fictitious, it is ridiculous,” he said.

I’ve just watched the whole speech - all 30 odd minutes - nothing homophobic or transphobic was said. Interestingly there were plenty of other things said worth objecting too though, but he chose this topic as his hill to die on…

TBH nothing looks ‘odd’ about this blokes removal.

Ugh. Just why are men.

I'd never heard of him but I'm looking him up now, thank you for this thread

When newsrooms broadcast from College Green there are sometimes such interruptions, and no one gets moved on by the police...
So you are conflating a public park with a secure news room. Really? Talk about stretching.

If he was that quiet he wouldn't have been removed. If the clip you saw was him being quiet then what happened before. I despair at some peoples thought processes at times.

And I'm still waiting to find out what was homophobic in her speech. He hasn't said what it was, maybe you can?

Waspie · 04/10/2023 12:55

When I was a child Andrew Boff was a councillor in LB Hillingdon. His mother was also a councillor. He was very much attached to her. He would sometimes turn up to council meetings with a teddy bear - very "Brideshead Revisited". He is a very strange man and not one I'd like to be caught in a dark alleyway with.

I am struggling to understand how someone would be in a newsroom in a position to heckle, its not like news broadcasts have an audience.

I haven't listened to the Home Secretary's speech, but she does have form on homophobia.

Underrated post.

I haven't listened to the Home Secretary's speech

So you can't say what was homophobic about it but still think Boff was right to heckle, albeit very, very quietly under his breath. But loud enough that security was called. Okays...

Surely I don't have to agree with what the heckler said to be willing to defend his right to do it?

IwantToRetire · 05/10/2023 00:25

Just to say I dont object to hecklers.

But I do object to those who mis represent what was being said to further their particular cause.

On one level it doesn't matter whether it was actually staged, but given who she is and how often she is quoted, and given his well publicised views, why would he make such an effort to be in the front row.

To further his TRA cause by saying something weird about "gender ideology" (not sure any one talkes like that), and knows perfectly well that the organisers (not the speakers) have got a heavy security presence, gets thrown out, and then has the opportunity to spread false information about homophobia when what he shouted down was "gender ideology".

(And SB said he shouldn't be excluded from the Conference)

It reminds me a bit of the over dramtic arrest of Patsy Stevenson (useful patsy of Sisters Uncut) to not only show disrespect to what was meant to be a silent memorial to Sarah Everard and protest against male violence, to then be able to talk about the police and public order bill.

The media of course dont care. They just want an "incident".

Its funny how the msm goes on about fake news and the dangers of the internet, and yet everyday they are are selling it on the streets or broadcasting it into our houses.

Well this is a bit of a car crash interview. If you suspected Andrew Boff is a complete idiot this will confirm it. I hope Andrew Doyle sends him the evidence.

Yup, guy is an idiot. Doesn't know the first thing about what he's objecting to. I didn't watch all of it. If he wasn't such a fool he'd be a terf by the end of the interview.

Why was he dressed like a toddler?

IwantToRetire · 08/10/2023 23:16

It always amazed me that he has lasted as long as he has in politics. I cant remember everything about him, but it was always a bit of an eye roll event.

Maybe its because the Tories dont do that well in London that he sort of just became their go to person.

He learnt everything about trans rights from reddit.

Mollyollydolly · 09/10/2023 03:14

That interview with Andrew Doyle was so revealing. He should get him back on and do twenty minutes on men in women's prisons. The guy was totally clueless but so convinced he was right. Very strange man. Well worth a watch.

Rightsraptor · 09/10/2023 07:03

That interview made me cringe, I was almost peeping through fingers, going 'oh, no!' when Boff was so proudly displaying his ignorance. He reminded me of Billy Bragg.

And then he was banging on about 'I thought this was Free Speech Nation!' when AD was trying to bring it to a close, as if the concept of free speech means he has the right to witter on all night, ignoring time constraints, ad breaks etc.

Andrew Doyle handled him well, though.

ResisterRex · 09/10/2023 08:28

I hope he comes back. I'm intrigued about the Power Of Cargo Shorts, and don't want to be left hanging.

Boff they’re repeating all the TRA trope. And completely dismissed Jenny Watson’s situation.

Thanks for the link.

ArabellaScott · 09/10/2023 08:42

The cargo shorts bit baffled me, too.

So go on then. Just quote one or two despicable things she said. It will be very easy to do so if what you say is true.

MrsSkylerWhite · 10/10/2023 09:06

No, don’t be lazy/disingenuous. Look it up yourself (if you really don’t know already). If you don’t, then you either didn’t listen to her speech, in which case why are you commenting? or you did but didn’t find it the least objectionable. In which case you’re just as bloody awful and not worth engaging with.

MrsSkylerWhite · 10/10/2023 09:19
