I have just been reading and looking at pictures of protesters at a feminist conference in America and I am always quite shocked by the demographic that are obviously people that most rationally minded people would consider to be wrong uns for want if a better word.
Overwhelmingly men - the sort that would fit my image of an incel or a far right loner type.
I can understand the gender/ trans debate is just another issue these people can latch onto and obsess over and an outlet for their hatred, but what I'd really like to know is are there any people who consider themselves as activists that have noticed this and feel uncomfortable/ call it out or leave their activism because of it.
I just find it bizarre that largely middle class, educated people such as creatives, columnists , students etc can't see this and don't question it.
Like if they actually met a person like this in real life and had to work with them or something I can't believe they would feel comfortable and get along.
Is it just part of the black and white good v bad ideology that if they state they are on their side it's ok to threaten rape, be a convicted sex offender, make violent threats you can still be part of the good gang.
Would they let such people babysit their kids or invite them into to their Victorian semi for cold brew because I think that's highly unlikely.
Maybe they are too far down the rabbit hole but I'd love to know if anyone has challenged it and changed their position because of it.
Would for example Owen Jones go for a beer with this guy or consider himself on the same team
- I am not on Twitter so I genuinely don't know if it gets called out by both sides.
