Would any of these books concern you?

Hello,

My DDs primary school has a new diversity and inclusion drive. They are having a talk about it soon which I intend to go to and I was going to ask if they were working with any external organisations and if so which ones. But is there anything else that’s good to find out?

As part of this drive there are new books available to the children. I’ve posted them below. I’m only familiar with ‘dogs don’t do ballet’ (which I quite like - no issues there). Anyone know if there are any books with controversial topics - for example that you can change sex or that if you like pink you must be a girl?

Thanks,

It depends what you are happy with, frankly. I'd be fine with all the ones/authors I know. I have a few concerns with the Amnesty International one- some of the stories are (IMO) a bit too mature for 10 year olds. I'd certainly advise reading that so you're prepared.

Good for you looking into material and agencies they are using. Really important.

Kelly jay Keen yesterday on Tuesday talks about all the things you can do.

I know most of these books, and they are fine. A good selection I would say. And Tango Makes Three is about a penguin family with two dads- very sweet actually. I don’t know the Princess Boy one. Rose Blanche is a picture book about a WW2 concentration camp. It’s very sensitively done though obviously sad. I’d rather see that used in Year 6 than Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.

I think it's a good list mostly established authors and several classics.. I agree the 2 titles mentioned are probably worth discussing, but that should happen in class as well I would hope.

You might want to check out “Red a crayon’s story”. It promotes the concept of gender identity iirc. A blue crayon with a red wrapper.

Princess boy is not good. You can watch someone read it on YouTube. And as previously said it's been discussed before on here.

I don't know most of the others. I own you choose. That's brilliant you just pick what sort of house bed etc you like very few words no gender ideology in it.

JellySaurus · 06/09/2023 18:32

You Choose is wonderful. Though I wonder how staff in thrall to the trans ideology will respond when the boy they are reading with chooses a frilly dress and a bonnet covered in flowers.

We love “you choose” in our house too but as others say it might be better enjoyed at home!
