Hackney mayor suspended by Labour after photo emerges of him partying with paedophile councillor

What is it with people who get into power who think they can break the rules, or in this case commit a serious crime against childrn.

And although the Mayor is not the culprit, there is so much wrong with this behaviour, not just lying but lying in relation to this crime, but put his friendship before his position.

Let alone both of them letting down the gay community by seemingly thinking it just wasnt an issue.

I am sure similar has happened in Tory councils, but this hardly makes Labour look like the new hope in this increasingly morally corrupt world.

Not forgetting, the real victims, the children. Just horrible.

Hackney mayor suspended after photo of him at party with paedophile emerges

The Mayor of Hackney was suspended by the Labour party on Thursday after a photo emerged of him partying with a former councillor who had been arrested in a child pornography sting two weeks previously.

And just to update on another part of a Labour borough showing how undemocratic they are when in power:

Hackney Labour is “stifled by a lack of internal democracy, transparency and scrutiny”.They also said there is an “absence of progressive thinking at national leadership level”.

Is this just Hackney or is there this level of criminal sexual behaviour common among councillors? Angry

Hackney’s Deputy Speaker charged with sexually assaulting a child – just days after handing in his resignation

He was elected as Deputy Speaker in May and sat on the Town Hall’s children and young people’s scrutiny commission.

I think this is across the whole country really. No one scrutinises local councillors do they? Only MPs are known or spoken about. People tend to vote according to the party they prefer, not recognising the name. I once googled looking for a pedophile councillor and couldn’t wade through all the hits. They are privy to all sort of information that is useful to people with bad motives as well as being well-connected.

I know in the past there were terrible stories of local child sex abusers being protected both in Hackney and Islington because there were council employees.

Not sure why I would have thought it doesn't happen any more.

So strange that both the application process for a job and to become a councillor dont have some sort of back ground checks.

I worked in a certain london borough council in around 2012. There was a young man who got put away for rape - I forget the details. Worked in the same team as me, but I didn't interact with him much, he was quiet and unassuming. Turned out he had previously had another conviction relating to rape and possession of indecent images of children. This man worked on the IT helpdesk. Everyone in that team had full access to all council databases, that includes the childrens social care system (security was terrible because they decided it was too hard to put in proper procedures). None of us were DBS checked and he never disclosed his prior conviction. Opened my eyes to how easy it used to be for these predators. Less so now, I hope. I think they have their networks and they know where they need to move to in order to carry out their depravity.

Dont want to appear obsessed by this but am stunned by the way Labour Party is responding to this. Do you remember in the good old days when a disgraced politician would disappear off for a decade or so and do good works. Now they just seem to think it is about having their name in the news.

And as for the Labour leadership. Can Starmer stoop any lower?

Ex-mayor greets guests to Labour business gala where Sir Keir gives speech

DISGRACED former Labour mayor Philip Glanville was pictured last week meeting and greeting guests to a £2,000-a-table Labour business gala dinner where party leader Sir Keir Starmer gave a speech.

Deputy leader Angela Rayner, London Mayor Sadiq Khan, shadow health secretary Wes Streeting and Labour’s general secretary David Evans were also pictured at SME4Labour’s London shmooze-up, which saw up to 200 pro-Palestine demonstrators accuse the party’s leadership of being “genocide facilitators” on Tuesday.

Mr Glanville resigned as elected mayor after the Morning Star published pictures showing him partying with his councillor flatmate Tom Dewey after being informed of his arrest for possession of indecent child images.

He admitted lying in public in August after previously claiming that he had no communications with now-convicted Dewey after learning of the allegations against him.

Good on the Morning Star for not letting this go.

Exactly, what happened to the gun in the library?
That wasnt so long ago.

Love the Morning Star. Totally women supporting ( the old fashioned type)

Islington council was shown to have a local councillor who was campaigning for the Paedophile Information Exchange in 1981, (google Fallen Angels Islington for news articles) elected to council in 1982, in charge of looked after children committee by 1984. When photos of her at a conference surfaced a compensation scheme was established by Islington Council saying they acknowledged the fact that paedophiles were working in every borough care home for children by 1992. Despite apologising and setting up the scheme the council have fought many applications for redress and blocked as many as possible. Weirdly Corbyn has never supported these constituents. See also Islington Survivors Network. Baffling and scary.

I suppose I thought DBS checks would help stop people with convictions of sexual crimes of getting any where near children or information about children.

But then recently there have been so many stories of people reported for sexually criminal behaviour, and all too often if doesn't get to court.

Makes me think that the system introduced in Ireland (I started a thread about it) is as additional precaution. ie anyone who gives a character reference for someone covering up their criminal behaviour becomes legally liable. I know it would stop it every happening but it might make a few people think.
