Mr Menno: parts one and two of Facial Feminisation Surgery

I don't think there is already a thread. I've just been watching two fantastic new videos that Mr Menno posted up yesterday.

On the face of it (ahem), they are about Facial Feminisation Surgery. But actually, they are about soooooooo much more. He explores lots of different facets about why someone feels the need to do this, what the impact is on everyone else and lots more besides. Also, in true Mr Menno style, there is some humour (my favourite moment was his conversation with himself in the hand held mirror in part 2).

I'm new to Twitter/X and I can't work out how to pull the videos out of the Tweets as a YouTube URL. Apologies to anyone not on Twitter (and a plea for assistance from anyone who is 🙏)

Part one:

Part two:

Informative and entertaining! 🏳️‍🌈🎶

Thanks for posting, I ❤MrMenno

I've thought he was great from the moment I first saw his material. These two documentary-style reports are some of the best stuff I've seen from him. It's like Panorama with satire. The way he explores everything is phenomenal.
Apparently parts 3-5 will follow.

It’s great, he is a man, and so knows how men think, and he says how men think, which is not always the way when some men speak, especially the men who are trying to pull the wool over everyone’s eyes about trans issues, and many transpeoples agendas.

rabbitwoman · 27/08/2023 13:55

I wish Menno would put out more content.

He is absolutely smashing. And v beautiful.

AutumnCrow · 27/08/2023 15:08

Just watched these - excellent stuff. Thank you so much for the link, @BonfireLady.

I'll be looking out for Parts III onward.

Is Menno from the Netherlands, out of interest? (Just being nosey.) He has a most lovely accent and cadence.

CouldNotResist · 27/08/2023 15:50

He’s from the Netherlands and he’s wonderful. He’s so funny and I’d love to go drinking with him 😊 The content he produces gives me hope and I make a point of watching it when I’m feeling particularly down. Very clever and genuinely caring. Off to watch!

AutumnCrow · 27/08/2023 17:15

I've just found Menno's video on 'that' swimmer. The whole saga makes me so angry I will need a drink to finish watching it - but I can see already it's a very well-crafted piece. Menno's a talented film maker.

RealityFan · 27/08/2023 17:29

This is the Mr. Menno who hangs out with Dennis Kavanagh? Really liking his style on Pt1, there's no barbs being thrown, just a curiosity in the subject, and resultant exasperation.

Ironically, I'm not always brilliant in terms of having been fooled on men passing who my GF and other women say are deffo biological men. So this stuff is fascinating.

One interesting take. Unlike other cosmetic surgery that is there purely to enhance the person, ie the original patient is still the same person post-surgery, gender reassignment surgery including feminising work is there to try and fool others of the opposite sex.

The patient may coyly claim it's to make them feel better (and I'm sure it does when they smile at themselves looking at their unadorned reflection in the full length mirror).

But for the rest of us, the aim is to trick us, to confuse us, to befuddle us.

More evidence the whole phenomenon is rotten to the core and based on lies.

Yes, I'm looking forward to parts 3-5 very much too.

@RealityFan , yes I had the same takeaway too about the purpose of the surgery being to trick others (out of the "gender jarrrrr"). It's interesting the way that "Wendy" positioned it to him when he was still in his Be Kind take on all of this. The visual cues that women use to asses how safe they are are important. Thankfully we can still (in the vast majority of cases) tell the difference between transwomen and women in the majority of situations because of their gait amongst other things. And no, if there are any lurkers, I'm not saying that transwomen per se are a threat to women - I'm saying that women will conciously asses risk if they are in a situation alone with a stranger who is a (natal) male.

My other takeaway in relation to that was how he shared a part of his own peaking journey in this respect: when he took the "it's a girl" card along to the hospital following his friend's surgery and sat, alongside "Wendy", congratulating his friend on his "rebirth as a woman".... through to how he sees it all now.

He's a lovely bloke, not a big drinker but very chatty and friendly at the sfw speakers corner/let women speak events.

Winnading · 28/08/2023 14:05

And the jarrrr is just worse. Wont mention names so this is not deleted, but the ones I've seen even just on TV give me the jarrr effect.
Uncanny valley.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 28/08/2023 14:24

I showed Mennos song ‘It’s Ma’am’ to DH yesterday, followed ( at his request) by ‘In the Ladies’.

Now he tells me he’s done a Patreon to him. Humour is so much more effective than ranting.

RealityFan · 28/08/2023 14:26

I must admit, I'm not brilliant at always picking up modifications. At a pub a few months ago, my GF made the correct call that I didn't re a trans member of bar staff.

Of course, me having the abiding interest in the subject, her less so, it would be typical for me to not be 100% reliable in my "assessing" skills, lol. After a decade of musing on it.

I asked her why she likely is the more accurate observer. She said the worst that could happen to me in a clinch or in restricted confines of a "safe" space is acute embarrassment. For her and other women, it's genuine risk to physical safety.

Women have to get it right. Men can go, not to worry, just don't mention it down at the gym.

Exactly this! 👍👍👍👍👍
It becomes a skill that lives within your core. One that could potentially save your life one day. It's why women carry keys in their hands when walking alone at night and/or listen out for any footsteps behind them. Thankfully not every man is dangerous but the survival skill to spot the presence of a man is one of the most important skills that a woman needs to have.

At times like that, saying "Maaate!" just won't cut it.

I think a big part of ongoing toxicity from the TRAs trying to.pass is that transwomen know that they don't really pass, and can never pass to the vast vast majority of women.

And this mental jar (or jarrrrr as it's said here) remains the glitch in the program, the stone in the gears, that means though they think that it should be simple, and they seem authentic in the full length mirror, they're aware that when they hit the cold air of reality, the illusion crumbles.

And they're even further from their objective, leaving only bad vibes and even badder attitude. Because, mirror mirror on the wall, who's the femalest of all? is all in their mind, their authentic self truly inauthentic when put to the only test that matters.

Totally agree re humour.
Of all the different styles that people have on this whole debate, I find humour far more disarming than any other too. Obviously it's one to be on your guard for (Katy Jon Went seems quite jolly) but equally, Mr Menno can say things that I don't necessarily agree with myself without them jarrrrrr-ing with me, simply because of his humour. Case in point: he did a post on Twitter about needing to say "he" instead of "she" when talking about transwomen. Personally, I choose the pronouns I use based on the circumstances and in accordance with my own values. No trans person compels me to use them. But equally, humour is going to be one of the most effective ways I'll hear that advice (yes, I've read "pronouns are Rohypnol - and I get it) without it sounding like compelled speech not to use them.
Also satire, in amongst the difficulty and child-mutilation tragedy of this subject, is what keeps me sane.
I make a few donations and am thinking more about where I want to spread the money. Haven't done to Mr Menno yet but I may well do so. So far I've been focused on helping kids and topping up the accounts of the odd legal gardening opportunities that come my way.

Which city's/region's LSW events does he tend to go to? Have we only got London in the UK? I've always been impressed at the way he has championed women's and children's rights and safety with just as much gusto as gay rights. It's an incredible balance that he achieves in this respect.

He's quite often at London, and I think he tries to get to most of the touring ones as well. I saw him in Manchester and Brighton. I'm sure I've seen him in the videos of others.

Villagetoraiseachild · 28/08/2023 17:04

I believe he was in Glasgow.
