2008… comedians freely engage in non-PC banter about a pregnant trans man

A clip has surfaced on social media of The Big Fat Quiz of the Year 2008. Some big-name TV stars, including Dara O Briain, can be seen having a giggle about the notion of a man giving birth. They’d never get away with this kind of comedy banter now, and Dara has repeatedly ignored Graham Linehan’s calls to speak up about gender ideology. I found it interesting to see that even the most fervent BeKinders of 2023 have a few very un-PC skeletons in their closet.

The endless hypocrisy of the comedy class

Personally I find TV panel shows pretty unbearable. They’re like being at a student party full of lairy smartarses you don’t know, and probably wouldn’t want to. But now a clip from one has, in the journalistic parlance of our time, ‘resurfaced on soci...

Looks like a big portion of the New Atheists are as prone to magical thinking as those they criticised mercilessly.

Nah, they're just afraid to say anything.

Yep, there is that too.
Dara is so patently disingenuous, still maintaining his hard man uber realist persona...BAM! Criticises Brexit. BOSH! Slams Covid deniers. WHACK! Thrashes dishonest Tories. BLEEUUURGH! Collapses like a bad souflé when trans raises it's ugly head.

Abhannmor · 22/08/2023 15:58

A smug establishment mouthpiece. Like Norton. They gauge the winds and currents. Boyle and Lee are the same.

RealityFan · 22/08/2023 16:39

And remember, come the big societal 180 as the West regains it's grip on sanity, these people won't even remember what side they were on. The plausible denial will be the greatest gaslighting the world has ever seen.

CorruptedCauldron · 22/08/2023 16:45

Catching up on the thread and amused by the sudden Marillion twist! Thanks for the earworm!

Basically, I think this clip shows that believing it’s impossible to change sex is not a niche belief. It’s a mainstream belief, everybody had it back in 2008 so what’s changed since then? The cultural shift, that’s what, and the powerful pressure groups infiltrating every corner of society, have forced people to shut up and be kind. No matter their personal beliefs, most people dare not rock the rainbow boat anymore.

Watching the clip did make me cringe as it is pretty cruel to mock a real-life person, a female with gender dysphoria. But yes, they’re laughing at the absurdity of the situation, the madness of the notion that men can give birth. This is what comedians used to do - they never pussyfooted about or trod on eggshells. Only in this new rainbow world are people constantly policing the way they speak and second-guessing themselves.

I don’t think Dara is a bad person, I think he’s just scared. He’s got a career and he wants to keep it, and the trans issue doesn’t affect him personally so he’s not bothered. Frankie Boyle on the other hand, I absolutely despise. I still can’t believe how he can act all right-on and be a darling of the Left and trans ally when he’s jeering at women’s appearance, joking about raping them, and mocking their disabled children. He goes in so ruthlessly against women because he’s too gutless to joke about any other oppressed group.

I did google, I got a Canadian chocolate company.

I don’t know any Canadian chocolatiers, but if they’re oppressing women I’m going to boycott them <misses point of thread>

Remarkable how it is acceptable to paint severely disabled young adults as rapists and no-one on the progressive liberal tolerant side bats an eye but be factual about predators exploiting the self-id loophole and....

Kayley is a slang term for drag queens, and of course I support drag. It’s homophobia like this from reactionaries which can lead to attacks such as that in Clapham. The gay panic around drag queen story hour is genuinely pathetic.

ArabeIIaScott · 22/08/2023 19:09

I googled 'Kayley' because I had no idea what you were talking about; there wasn't anything about drag in the results.

And if you can point out the homophobia on here, that would be helpful.

Or are you just suggesting all gay, lesbian and bisexual people 'support drag' - all drag, in all contexts? Because that would be untrue. And a bit mad, tbh.

Citation needed.

popebishop · 22/08/2023 19:12

You have read the posts on here and concluded that people don't like drag queen story time because they are gay?

Are you being dishonest?

ArabeIIaScott · 22/08/2023 19:16

Women; should you EVER complain about men calling you a 'hole' or any other sexist term, or using demeaning language or a skit in which they 'milk' their fake breasts or throw a fake foetus into the audience - this is purely your homophobia.

Complaining about men parodying women or with sexually inappropriate names and acts - like, say 'Flow Job' or an act that involves nudity and a my-little-pony tail - visiting schools?

...you're just anti-gay.

I mean, how fucking offensive to gay, lesbian and bisexual readers.

You really are a joke, Dadjoke.

CorruptedCauldron · 22/08/2023 19:32

When I used to think of drag queens, I would think of high-camp glitz and glamour. Sparkling full-length evening dresses, song and dance routines, etc. Maybe the odd double entendre but nothing too offensive. Perhaps I was naive, but I saw drag as gay men trying to look fabulous and being inspired by women like Joan Collins, Judy Garland, Shirley Bassey, etc. Now, with the rise of queer theory, drag has become porno filth and a mockery of women. I saw the clip of the fake breasts squirting milk everywhere and it was absolutely repulsive. There’s nothing fabulous, nothing aspirational; it’s snarling misogyny, and kids need to be kept well away from it.

I find drag one of those particularly angering subjects (I mean, it all makes me angry, but drag just next level) so I don’t click on much that references it. I can’t fucking believe some of the stuff you’ve said on here. The lows it’s sunk to. And drag artists are still claiming they’re CeLeBrAtInG wOmEn?!

Do you mean ‘Kai Kai’? No? Then link is up to this ‘slang’ entry because it must be so underground that it is unheard of by the first page of search engine results.

Either way, you are on form.

Calling women some kind of denigrating term for objecting to concepts that harm them. You have done this before. Including trying to minimise the harm to women and girls of males who show off their cocks in communal changing rooms.

Now women are homophobic for objecting to drag.

I notice, and I am sure others have too, that you have not addressed one single issue such as horrific dehumanising names, disgusting acts on stage featuring abortion, and other issues raised. No. Just a male person straight in for the scolding and attempting to shame women for disagreeing that any male should be doing this.

Well done. Your every post lately has shown readers how misogynistic those who unthinkingly support the concept that male people can become ‘women’ can be. Crack on dadjoke! You are doing great work.

RufustheFactualReindeer · 22/08/2023 20:35

I did just check with drag race fan ds1, he hasn’t got any idea about kayley either

im assuming that dadjoke won’t be back to explain

CorruptedCauldron · 22/08/2023 20:36

It’s definitely too late for him to say he’s sorry…

Of course you would support drag, every misogynist does.

The protests against Drag Queen Story Hour have nothing to do with whether or not the Drag Queens are gay, but you know that so I won't waste my breath.

To quote @DadJoke from the thread on Kemi Badenoch and single sex toilets:

*This issue has not impact on transgender rights except in the way it is framed.

There is no legitimate and proportionate reason to exclude them, and no provider even attempts to do so. Transgender people will continue to be able to use the loo associated with their gender.*

Won't even recognise the single sex exemptions in the EqA2010.

ArabeIIaScott · 22/08/2023 21:26

I just can't go on pretending

RufustheFactualReindeer · 22/08/2023 21:36

It came to a natural end 😔

FedUpWithEverything123 · 23/08/2023 00:05

Ahhh I miss 2008 and the freedom of thought & speech we took for granted

NotBadConsidering · 23/08/2023 04:12

Drag Queens are GAY?!😲 But gender ideology tells us they’re straight women! Are you being transphobic @DadJoke ?

Festivfrenzy · 23/08/2023 06:39

IcakethereforeIam · 22/08/2023 12:40

Yes, having a go at a pregnant woman because of how she choses to present is disgusting.

Also, Claudia Winkleman has eyes, who knew?

"She" is one of the lucky ones though isn't she? If she'd been born 5 years later her chosen "presentation" would've got her sterilised and her baby would never have been possible.
This is the issue- not the "presenting" which is fine, it's the follow through that results in biology being cancelled and reversed, and denied, such that male rapists are welcomed in girls and women's toilets and changing rooms and sent to women's prisons.
If it was only about "presenting" and accepting everyone's differences then men in dresses would be welcomed in men's toilets.
But it's not that is it- those men in dresses don't WANT to be accepted in men's loos- they want to intrude where they're not allowed- it's the thrill for them.

WarriorN · 23/08/2023 07:49

I was trying to find the Jon Robson radio 4 prog about michfest that completely left out the murders of a lesbian couple and their son by a transwoman who'd been lobbying against michfest excluding males.

I found a series he'd done a decade ago analysing weird social stuff like <all this> with Glinner.

No wonder Graham was particularly annoyed with him.
