Do you believe Drag Queen Story Hours are generally appropriate or inappropriate for children? YouGov Chat survey - cant find results

You Gov Chat is holding a survey on Drag Queen Story Hour:

Do you think 'Drag Queen Story Hour' is a good or bad idea?
Today, we would like to hear your thoughts on drag shows, and some of the laws abroad which have sought to ban or restrict them. Have you ever been to a drag performance? And do you think dressing up as another gender for entertainment purposes is generally harmful or harmless? Plus, join the debate on whether you think 'Drag Queen Story Hour' is a good or bad idea...
https://www.yougov.chat/^^

But I cant see the results, and I thought that was the point of YouGov Chat, to show responses in real time - does anyone know where to find them?

Thanks

(Anyone can take part in these surveys. You just have to sign up with an email)

You can see the results as part of taking part - once you've entered your response you get the total results.
For what it's worth the data showed that a majority disapproved of DQs insistence on reading to children.

It was very disingenuous. They said some states the US have banned drag performances do you agree? Well no I don't agree but that isn't the issue. I object to performing infront of children. Later questions asked about DQST and it seems the majority of people (59%) think it is inappropriate for children. I suspect it would be much higher if you restricted the question to people who actually had kids.

Thanks - I wasn't paying attention.

I know its not a proper survey and the questions skew how you respond.

Not sure I can be bothered to go through again, as I was hoping to have a link that showed % saying yes, no, maybe or whatever.

Partly because I think a lot of people just aren't aware of what might have been Drag Queen night club acts have become something a bit different. Especially the push to have them in libraries?

Just why?

Why not the lollipop lady?

When I completed the questions it was at 59% saying that drag isn't suitable for children with a similar percentage who would not take their child to a drag show.

What irked me about the questions is the complete lack of discussion about the inherent misogyny and sexism of drag. And the repeated claim that drag is about dressing as the opposite gender, which makes it seem like drag kings are as much of a thing as drag queens! Which they most definitely are not. Just seemed to be focussed on drag as an "art form" without thinking about why it's apparently deeply amusing for mostly gay men to dress up as an unpleasant caricatures of women

IwantToRetire · 18/08/2023 19:47

I did add a comment about the misogyny and trying to say it was no different to going to a pantomime iis just not true.

Anyhow, I was just a bit irritated having done the survey not to have taken note of the results.

And have found I can go back in to the survey but it wont let me go back to the early questions.

Very strange you would think they would publish the results. And if not why are they doing it?

Yes did survey but I think not appropriate for children at all and why is it being pushed on children. Why do they not go and read to elderly people in nursing homes etc why the push for children. Not right and when did this even become a thing. I always found drag queens scary and insulting to women as if making fun of us as so over the top. Am usually very open minded but let drag queens stick to their adult only shows and not push it onto children. Let children enjoy their childhoods without drag queens and all this trans stuff. Ok to talk about it in secondary school but let young children be children and have their innocence. Sick of all this crap being pushed onto children.

Singleandproud · 18/08/2023 20:22

My local theatre has replaced the traditional pantomime dame with a drag queen this year so I won't be watching.

A traditional dame named something like Dame / widow Twinky seems very different to a drag queen named Anna Phylactic!

PeachPieStreet · 18/08/2023 20:24

59% against Draq Queen Storytime when I did it too.

I commented about why is it always draq queens and never other role models? Somebody else made the comment that it's never drag queens visiting the elderly or hospitals, which I hadn't thought about.

RebelliousCow · 19/08/2023 12:53

'The idea' is that drag queens are supposed to present children with gender fluid role models - but the issue is that not only are the depictions heavily gendered, but they are also grotesque and ugly portrayals of women, which does nothing to challenge anything. It also normalises men parading around presenting as 'women'.

I (female) went to a drag show when I was in my 20s. One of the drag queens stopped by my table and said ‘you shouldn’t be here, love, this isn’t for you’. I knew he meant it kindly but it took me ages to understand why he said that.
