Well this is going to be interesting! Jane and Fi on Times Radio have been pretty smug and terrible on gender issues thus far.

But Sharron is simply a wall of facts, reason and humanity. They can't argue... or can they? I'm tuning in 😊

We've been watching the cycling World championships over the last few evenings. We'll, to be honest, I have been reading my book and glancing up a bit at the madness that happens in the velodrome (the races/rules are bonkers).

The one thing I noted (well, apart from the bonkers part) is that for the same races for men and women, the average speed was 45km/hour for women (the top in the world) and 51/52km/hour for men.

Men are stronger/faster than women.
A man, who could not even qualify for the men's race, would beat the top women in the world.

Why can people not see this?

Why can people not see this?

They don’t want to. For Reasons.

I think they can see it. They just don't think it's a problem for women to lose out if a male of self reported marginalised status wants something. They consider it to be equity and righting some kind of perceived wrong.

Funnily enough you don't see it the other way around. I'm still waiting for the demands to handicap male athletes in some way so transmen have a sporting chance.

I'm not sure how this would look in practice but off the top of my head perhaps male cyclists should ride with one tyre that has a slow puncture or male runners could have a thin layer of concrete applied to their trainers. We could actually get really inventive with this if TRAs wanted equity for transmen athletes. What a shame nobody seems to care. 🤔

Tallisker · 11/08/2023 10:20

Why can people not see this?

They can. They just ignore it, because it's a men's rights movement.

The interviewer in the blue top (Fi?) looked pretty uncomfortable at Sharron's statement about the DSD and the Rio Olympics. Good for Sharron!

When Sharron said that everyone knew in the 70s, and the German athletes were being discussed in schools, I remember girls being described as 'built like an East German swimmer' if they were anything other than tiny.

MorrisZapp · 11/08/2023 11:37

They absolutely can see it. They just have vested interests in pretending they can't, be they social, professional or selfishly personal.

In talking about this subject I was introduced to the term 'toxic empathy', and it is particularly clear when it comes to sports.

You empathise so much with one person that you completely exclude all others. And this is so apparent when talking to any of my pals about this. They KNOW men can never be women, etc, but they might have in mind one trans person they know personally and they feel so sorry for that person, or could not ever imagine being rude to that person, that they apply it to ALL AREAS of this debate.

The claims about suicide, or trans women being murdered, buy in very effectively to toxic empathy. So now you empathise SO STRONGLY with these poor trans women you think the truth is somehow cruel, and trying to point out the impact on others is somehow cruel.

You even see video footage of TRAs being violent towards old women, but you are blinded by the 'empathy' you feel for that one confused teenager you know, or that trans woman crying after pouring soup on KJK. And you will NEVER see KJK crying. Or Maya, or Helen Joyce, or Sharron, or JKR.

A pal of mine said she was cheering for Laurel Hubbard because of all the awful online abuse she had suffered. When I pointed out online abuse directed at Riley Gaines who was, after all, forced to be named in front of a 6 foot 4 man in her changing rooms, she glazes over.

Toxic empathy!!!

It's odd that they so often get toxically empathetic about transwomen, but you don't go to hear them lauding transmen so much.

Personally I think people pity transwomen, because they are men choosing to identify as women, the lowest of the low.

The men are compelled to debase themselves. Poor things.

Its sexism on steroids.

rabbitwoman · 11/08/2023 12:12

Well, women are ever conditioned to put everyone else first......

And there is still, to this day, an idea that you can actually change sex, amongst very clever, well educated professional women, it would seem.

Women who have HAD BABIES seem to think men can get ACTUAL VAGINAS through surgery. I try to explain - but again, I think they refuse to believe that any medical professional would actually do that to someone.....

JodyMitchell · 11/08/2023 13:01

This was a great interview. Not only because SD was clear and intelligent and used irrefutable evidence persuasively.

I like Jane and Fi a lot and listen to all of their podcasts but their position on trans issues has always disappointed me, it’s always been ‘it’s complicated’ and ‘be kind’ I know for a long time it was because they were on the BBC. I hoped being on Times Radio would liberate them but there was no evidence of it until now.

I am fairly certain they wouldn’t have had SD on at all if they disagreed with her or they would have added disclaimers and ‘balance’ on to the beginning or end of the podcast. But they didn’t, they allowed SDs words to stand as they were. It was great!

Yes. People are incredulous, because it actually is unhinged.

That was a fascinating interview with Sharron Davies. By god, she's articulate.

and I defy anyone to listen to her and find anything to disagree with.

She's a fantastic advocate.

I was pleasantly surprised by Fi and Jane. I think they have finally grasped it.

They gave her all the time the world. Asked her all the questions that transactivists raise, and let her demolish them.

It was also incredibly interesting, not to mention infuriating, hearing Sharron detail such fucking rank sexism directed at women in sport. Since forever. And ongoing.

She's advocating for the the return of the cheek swab test to determine sex. You only have to have it the once. She said it was discontinued because they polled women in sport, and only 2% didn't want it! 98% did.

I bet if anyone went to look at that, embryonic transactivists had a hand in it.

southbiscay · 11/08/2023 13:40

Well done Sharron!

The 'it's complicated' argument drives me nuts. It is not in the least bit complicated. People compete in their own sex category. No one can change sex. That's the start and end of it. Not complicated at all.

As the saying goes: " Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive".

Sports bodies, institutions, schools etc have been trying to deceive for too long. No more.

No one ever believed that men could utter the magic words 'I am a woman' and immediately transubstantiate. But intelligent and highly paid people have being going along with it. It truly beggars belief.

RealityFan · 11/08/2023 14:25

Emily looks nice in that photo above. I'd rate a F+ overall grade for being a woman, a fail overall, but lots of splendid effort put in. Too bad about her apocalypse theories, kinda spoils the illusion of kindness and harmony yada yada.

sashagabadon · 11/08/2023 14:33

I can’t imagine anyone objecting to a cheek swab as intrusive when we’ve been sticking swabs up our collective noses to test for covid weekly for some people for the last 3 years!

What these people are doing is identifying which humans are the “high value” humans (ie males) and prioritising them.

I found a recent piece by Victoria Smith really enlightening on this point; her ability to identify and analyse what’s happening underneath is outstanding.

we learned our stories didn’t count”

“My own feelings, it seemed, didn’t matter.”

“The way I have seen certain politicians and professional feminists behave with regard to “the trans issue” is exactly how I think they would behave if you were to approach them as an individual facing abuse from a partner or colleague. They’d not disbelieve you as such, but test the waters, see how high-value you were in relation to your abuser, and they wouldn’t even notice they were doing it. They’re the goodies, after all.”

Her article isn’t discussing sport, but it deals with the dismissal of women’s feelings.

There’s a thread on her article.
