Top surgery scars and what could be construed as self-harm scars on the arms on a weird, sausage-armed, elbow-less pink cartoon person. The top three comments on the post are all critical. (Irrespective of the subject matter, am I the only person who finds this drawing style really ugly?)

Wild Womyn on Twitter says it as it is:
"Since when is cashing up on the mutilation of young teenage girls and lesbians cool and progressive ??"

Isn't that that same cartoon from that Snag Tights thing there was a thread about the other week?
If not, it looks insanely similar, same artist perhaps?

It’s a disgrace and totally unethical, it seems that Costa is at it too. A company with such an influential brand using imagery like that. Why the sudden interest in transmen though? The TRAs have never bothered with them much before, it’s always been about transwomen.

I don't read the marks on the arms as self-harm scars, but as hair from testosterone doping.

I do read the scars on the chest as self-harm scars. Just not self-inflicted.

I have an adult child with self-inflicted self-harm scars. They choose not to cover their scars (except around their grandparents). My child understands that they need have no shame for surviving a very dark time.

But that is entirely different to celebrating damage.

Dammit all! I just bought my DD some as a very nice present. Not a small amount of cash...

Flowers to your child

@JellySaurus You don't need me to say it, but what an excellent attitude you and your adult child have to the physical reminder of the dark time they survived.
Your post really touched me as someone who's adult child is still emerging from a dark place.

Fair point Jellysaurus, and as a PP said, best wishes to your child and good on them. I have friends who feel similarly, but the last thing they would want is to see self-harm scars being used in an advert or an Instagram post like this to sell shoes.

It's known officially as corporate Memphis (although it has other nicknames) and is almost universally disliked.

I HATE it, but it isn't even exactly ugly. Uglyness has its place in art and can be deeply meaningful and even be sublime. It's utterly soulless is what it is.
