May she rest in peace. She was an amazing woman.

I know there are other threads about her sad passing, but I was just listening to 'Black Boys on Mopeds' and this lyric jumped out at me. The song was released in 1990, but how apt it is now:

"These are dangerous days
To say what you feel is to dig your own grave"

That’s true, @IwantToRetire. I’m making an assumption.

IwantToRetire · 10/01/2024 01:12

Just adding this because some did wonder why she died so young.

"This is to confirm that Ms O'Connor died of natural causes," a statement from Southwark Coroner's Court on Tuesday said.

"The coroner has therefore ceased their involvement in her death," the statement added.

Thanks for posting this, I saw the news and was strangely relieved - she was gone way too young, and lived through some awful stuff, but at least she didn't take her own life. I hope that makes some sense and doesn't offend.

I find the phrase "natural causes" very odd - what natural causes? She was relatively young.

But yes, I think we all assumed that she had taken her own life.

paisley256 · 10/01/2024 16:16

Yeah I must say I don't really understand that phrase when it's a woman of her age. Hope someone can explain as I've been confused since I saw this on the news. Thanks

But yes, I think we all assumed that she had taken her own life.

"Natural causes" can be literally anything disease-related, like strokes, heart attacks, pulmonary embolisms... all of which can and do sadly affect people in their 50s, including women. It means "did not die of suicide, violence or accident", or anything external. (have edited slightly to clarify further). But you're right, I think most of us assumed, which is why, I guess, it has been put out there.

paisley256 · 10/01/2024 16:21

Thanks for explaining that, it makes alot of sense.

IwantToRetire · 10/01/2024 19:04

Funny thing is I never assumed it was suicide, but somehow thought (but I think because over the years the media misrepresented her) that her lifestyle and events had taken a toll on her health.

I cant rmember the details and whether she was sectioned or voluntary entered a mental health institution, and rightly or wrongly I assume that the drugs dealt out there can erode health.

And as said up thread, sadly many people at that age do sucumb to a health issue they were probably never aware they had.

But yes I did post hews because earlier posts on here had implied that most thought it was suicide.

We are lucky that we still have her music to listen to.

IwantToRetire · 28/07/2024 18:09

Not posting in a morbid way, but because I remembered doubts about the "natural causes".

... the death certificate for O’Connor – which was registered by her ex-husband John Reynolds in Lambeth, London, on Wednesday (24 July) – has revealed the exact cause to be chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma.

The death certificate states that the musician had also been suffering from “a lower-grade respiratory tract infection”.

It's just a year since she died.

It is sad but a relief that she died of natural causes. Some of her last tweets were a bit bleak so I did wonder if it was suicide. Too young though. ♥
