Not sure if MNer's are likely to follow this type of YouTube Channel (to be honest his content's gone a bit down hill from how I remember it), but I was very disappointed to come across this today;

n

Overall very biased, doesn't talk about opposing sides or studies, doesn't actually go into any depth or detail at all - very surface level, to a point where it was actually concerning how little he was saying?
Outright lying about puberty blockers at one point.
Invalidating detrans people towards the end basically.
Forced myself to watch the whole thing and give him the benefit of the doubt, but it just got progressively worse as it went on. It screams brainwashing to me.

He’s a plastic surgeon from the US who makes his money from women who are unhappy with their appearance. Maybe he actually does some decent work with people to help with scarring and so on, but he’s also selling lots of supplements and beauty products off the back of his medical qualification.

In addition to that, as far as I can see, all the mainstream medical groups in the US are fully captured, including paediatricians and endocrinologists, so it’s not surprising a plastic surgeon is on board. Very likely he sees a lot of future money in it. All “sex change” surgery is plastic surgery.

On a related note, the BBC's local news programme for London last night had the first part of a special report on body dysmorphic disorder. I was waiting more in hope than expectation for dots to be joined, and sure enough they weren't. It affects both sexes but often in different ways. There was an interview with a young woman who believed (wrongly) that she looked awful and everybody was looking at her and therefore she needed to have surgery to fix all the different things that were wrong with her. I missed the start, so not sure how much surgery she did actually have - she mentioned height as one of the many things she believed needed to be fixed, and I hope no quack could be found to attempt surgery on the spine.

I find it amazing that most people can see immediately that medical and surgical treatment for a psychological problem is inappropriate in this context but as soon as gender is mentioned many assume it's all about identity, in the same way as identifying as LGB, rather than seeing it as another psychological issue which the sufferer would normally either grow out of once puberty is over, or could learn to live with, or even get over, with appropriate talking therapies, ongoing support for difficulties arising out of being neurodiverse, and possibly drugs for depression, anxiety etc.

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

I don't think the BBC report is necessarily "missing the link" to gender ideology, but rather the journalists are navigating what can he shown on air under the BBC's institutional capture.

I imagine there are plenty of journalists there that are silently GC.

All very true.
When I first found his content I was significantly younger and more self conscious, his content was originally talking about celebrities who generally people are under the impression have had little to no work done, and shines a light on it basically - I found his videos immensely helpful for putting things into perspective.
I guess with that context I'd sort of hoped that he might not be as captured by the ideological stuff as everyone else, so needless to say it was disappointing to hear coming straight from the horses mouth in such a blunt, "No debate" way as he did.

Sounds like he's drumming up business

Of course someone who stands to make an absolute fortune out of performing sex mimicry surgery is going to think it's okay.

He said in the video he doesn't perform those surgeries personally as he thinks it should left to a specialised area and he very much is specialised in aesthetics and reconstruction I believe, but I suppose the industry as a whole he probably feels he should stand by - Was just a shame to see.
