Anger as Arts Council Wales strips pronouns from all of its literature

Latest madness from Wales where we are supposed to pretend men and women do not exist and this has NO effect on art and culture.

We all know what that means in practice - over time MEN will inevitably get most of the funding and power. For gender neutral read male supremacy, see the Brit awards. Article in the telegraph:

What makes this even more crazy is that of the 14 member Council that approved this decision there only appears to be one man.

Why are women artists and creators selling out others like this? Is it just me or am I right in thinking that a male dominated council wouldn't have done this, because a) some would have felt a bit guilty for erasing women in this way and b) others would have been too scared of seeming sexist?

The only question I can see is whether Wales is the most sexist governed nation in the UK or if that dubious honour goes to NI. Sorry Scots you don't qualify as you actually get tonnes of media coverage and popular outcry when your government treats women like dirt.

Are they talking about neutering pronouns used in reference to identifiable individuals, as well as in reference to generic people?

It makes sense to use neuter pronouns in general, to avoid the issue of 'male as default'. But to refer to individual female artists in the neuter is to erase them. To refer to issues specific to women in the neuter erases their specific needs.

The they/thems aren't going to be happy when suddenly everything and everyone is a They/them.

the they/them identity is being co-opted to include everyone. What will they do 😳😱

Lack of transparency and everyone will be referred to by name presumably. What a waste of resources.

Indeed! Furthermore, they'll probabaly have to create a post for the person who has to monitor and enfoce this new ruling too.

Yeah, I'm not too clear on what pronouns they mean? If it's the generic "each member should be careful to pay their bills" it's fine, surely.

If it's "Boris Johnson introduced their new wife" then that's at best odd, at worst confusing to read.

Using they/them for everyone could be great from a gender critical pov. No need to fuss about pronouns and less emphasis on gender overall.

No. If we obscure the sex of everyone around us it becomes harder to see that the majority of influential people are men. If you can't see sex, you can't see sexism.
